Just my opinion mate, bolstered by his recent Le Mans win and only losing out on an Indy500 win due to engine failure. He is one of the only racing drivers who can consistently be relied upon to deliver. Vettel and Hamilton both drop their heads when things don't go their way, which lessens them in my eyes in comparison.

McLaren have confirmed that Carlos Sainz is joining them for 2019, something that will surprise nobody that's been listening to the rumours. I'm not sure what's happened between him and Red Bull, but in Hungary people were already practically guaranteeing he'd replace Alonso or Vandoorne.

I think Max being moved to Red Bull in his place really put strain on the relationship, plus the fact he and Max didn't get on. So when Palmer was mooted as being on the block, he worked to go there as an out. So now Renault have effectively screwed him by taking Ricciardo, and Red Bulls bridges have been burnt. Mclaren for Sainz I think is a way of staying on the grid as opposed to being competitive, in the hope a manufacturer team pick him up.

I just wonder if Red Bull are trying to find a number two driver for Max, so that they can avoid the frequently tempestuous relationship between the two drivers in the main team. Vettel and Webber, Ricciardo and Vettel, Verstappen and Ricciardo, Kvyat and Armco - they've all been a bit much to handle at times and I wouldn't be surprised if, going forward, there's a little more control in place. Sainz clearly thinks he's on par with Verstappen, although I don't think the results at Toro Rosso really showed it, and there's no way he'd accept being his wingman.

Not F1 but this happened earlier (driver is awake).

Watch the yellow car in the crash and see as his rollbox gets lopped off.

The fact that McLaren are going to have Carlos Sainz as their lead driver next year tells you everything you need to know about where the team currently stand.

I thought I'd already said, but looking back in this thread I haven't, so…

I went to Silverstone earlier this year with my father-in-law. We were meant to go a few years back but his godson ended up getting married on that Sunday (who gets married on a Sunday?!) so I took my then-girlfriend-now-wife instead. She'd never really been that interested in F1, but seeing it live really sparked her interest.

This year, we're off to Spa! It's definitely my favourite track, having driven around it countless times in games (Assetto Corsa most recently, which is sublime in VR). General admission only, but we have some decent folding chairs, and tickets for Friday through Sunday. Can't wait!

Not so keen on the epic drive to get there, but at least we found accommodation within about a 15 minute drive (in non-race-day traffic) of the circuit.

Try and get a spot looking down over Eau Rouge, at least on one of the days. That would be amazing to see the cars going through there up close.

While I suspect that Vandoorne will probably stay, so that the team have a baseline for their development, we don't actually know whether he is keeping his seat yet. He's certainly been among the most disappointing drivers this year and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the team is weighing up their options.

I imagine everyone and their dog are doing to aim to do that. On the plus side, there's nothing stopping me walking over there for a bit from wherever our seats end up getting set up. Definitely on the to-do list!

I've got until Thursday to research into the best spots to sit in – anywhere where I can see some track and a big screen will keep me happy.

No huge surprise, but Gasly has been confirmed as Verstappen's teammate for 2019: https://www.racefans.net/2018/08/20/red ... e-f1-2019/

Indeed I saw. Their way I think of telling Marko to sod off. However Mclaren want James Key and they could really use someone with some car building expertise.
