Heatblur Simulations, makers of the upcoming DCS F-14 module hired a guy going by the name of Meteor to produce a soundtrack. The module hasn't been released yet so there's only one track currently available, but I think it fits here:
Well, I listened to the whole of Magic Sword Volume 1 today, and it was indeed a great album.
Glad you liked it! I wish he'd hurry up and put out another one, Volume 1 is getting on a bit now.

Hey, neat! I'm wearing my Meteor t-shirt today, didn't know there was new stuff.

Not sure if this counts as synthwave or not, but it's five minutes of awesome:

What exactly *is* Synthwave? I found myself asking that earlier today when the Synthwave playlist I was listening to via Spotify was playing something I wouldn't call even remotely close (the main melody was played on an acoustic guitar, and you could barely detect the synth stuff in the bassline). To me it has to sound like it could have been made in the 80s, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

In its most pure definition, it's a genre that sprung up from the underground electronic scene in the late 2000s that was heavily influenced by 1980s game and movie soundtracks; a lot of the stuff posted in here doesn't really fit with the most pure form of it. It surfaced as a subgenre primarily out of French House artists like Kavinsky who started using 80s inspired synth sounds in their tracks.
As an example, I wouldn't call that Cyberpunk soundtrack Synthwave; though it is pretty dope. It's got too much of a grimy 90s industrial vibe to it to be considered synth though. There is a cyberpunk sub-genre of stuff like this that takes a lot more from the dirty 90s industrial and trance sounds which all sounds pretty fantastic.

Another favourite of mine, Gunship; their first album had a distinct Synthwave element to it but this one seems to be heading in a more direct pop style.
Their new album comes out next month. Really solid single this is.
And also, yeah, if it has acoustic guitar in it then it probably almost certainly isn't Synthwave.

Not keen on that one myself, I much preferred Tech Noir.

That track has some bad-ass wind/brass (which group does sax fit in?)! Really like that side of it. Slightly reminds me of this not-remotely-synthwave track by some instrumental rock/metal band:
