I posted this on the old forum, but it's worth bringing back I feel.

If I had to choose a single metal album which has caught my attention at the moment and I find aesthetically satisfying on all levels, it would be Winternight Poetry by In Tenebriz (from Russia).

More rock than metal, but not worth its own thread… Disturbed have a new album on the horizon. It's… more of the same old Disturbed formula. "Are You Ready" is available to listen now, and if you played it to blind me I'd struggle to remember which album it came off of, thinking it was some old song.

There's something to be said for sticking to your guns and delivering what your fans like, but come on guys – this is just boring now.

Found a "new" (to me) band yesterday (skip to 04:07 (!!!) to get to the actual song):

Their songs are all inspired and written about various horror(ish) films. This one is based on The Crow, which is one of my favourite films. And the song is awesome IMO.

It's the vernal equinox today, so it seems like a good chance to promote this album, which has become one of my favourites recently:

Aria of Vernal Tombs by Obsequiae

I love this.

Hmm, weird. I thought I'd already posted about this one:

Periphery have a new album out, iterating on the successful formula they used for their previous outing.

You can listen to the whole thing on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=O ... NM6xCbMwAM

The opening track is a nearly 17-minute romp through orchestral- and choir-backed djenty goodness (if you like that sort of thing). There's some pretty good variety on this album, spanning from an almost poppy It's Only Smiles to the electronic-based Crush.

The drumming is immense as ever (I'm p. sure Matt Halpern is my favourite drummer, with Matt Greiner from August Burns Red a very close second).

You definitely posted about it elsewhere. I kind of only vaguely listened to Periphery's older work in the past and it didn't grip me so much, this new album is very good though. Crush is my favourite track on the album because of how unique it sounds, not many artists get the whole heavy electronic thing right.

Well, I realise I'm a little late to the party (by a couple of decades), but I only just discovered Immortal last week and, by extension, Abbath.

I am now a fan!

Welcome to the party, where you been? ;)

Immortal and Abbath are great fun. Abbath in particular is very amusing to see live, mostly because he tends to be very drunk indeed when on-stage. In fairness to him he still manages to play, crab-walk etc but yes, much sauce tends to have been consumed beforehand.

Immortal put out a new album last year which I was a bit dubious about, no Abbath and all, but it hit all the usual high points and is damned good (Northern Chaos Gods is the title iirc).

Rammstein's new album has dropped and it is excellent.

It absolutely is, and Radio is my current favourite from it, helped no end by that video which I think is really clever.

Also it has a bit of a Du Hast vibe going on, and that's no bad thing.

Changed my mind. Like most of my interests, this was one was highly fleeting.

It is never going to live up to the hype that most of their fans will have built up for it.

They're not a band that I particularly get really. I really like the Lateralus album but never really saw any appeal in any of their other material.

I personally really like them, but I agree the task of appeasing Tool fans is going to prove hugely difficult. This isn't like Rammsteins return where the bar is considerably different (not knocking them though). I was lucky to see them live during the 10,000 Days phase and they blew my socks off.
