Figured this forum is ideal for the subject. I'm not really a podcast person but decided to invest in the Pocket Casts app for Android. Apart from some flaws in organising your podcasts it's a cracking app.

I've christened it by starting to listen to My Dad Wrote a Porno. Basically two guys and a girl read out a porno novel written by one of their dads. Massively funny and definitely not for the faint of heart, started it today and I can't stop.

What do you guys get into?

I started listening to podcasts, finally! after hearing about Joe Rogan interviewing Elon Musk, so downloaded Castbox for Android and promptly saved a few favs, including d/ling some JR past eps over wireless, for when I'm in the middle of a field working with no signal.

Let’s see.... I drive a lot for work so I listen to quite a few.... typing as I walk the dog so hello typos!

2 Good Boys
Probably my favourite. Some of the guys that used to do Gamewank and it’s still hilarious. None of it is date sensitive so if you like it you can go back to do 1.

Adam Buxton
Adam is one of my favourite celeb types. He just seems to lovely and cuddley and sweet and funny. The podcast is a weekly interview with low level celeb types some of whom I had never heard of but it’s always a great listen. It’s basically a UK Marc Maron

Hardcore History
You get 2 or 3 a year but they are 5+ hour deep dives into historical events. The WW1, WW2 and Hannibal ones are amazing.

Bombcast / Beastcast
Games podcasts for old men like us.

Last Podcast On The Left
Deep dives into the horrors of humanity (serial killers, cannibals, curiosities) and conspiracy theories with very inappropriate it very funny humour.... mostly. They can be annoying but that’s loud Americans for you.

Sword And Scale
True crime with no filter. Police interview and 911 calls and such and has made me feel physically ill a good few times. It’s not entertaining, it’s dry and horrible and not for the feint of heart, weak of stomach or really anyone that wants to keep any hope for humanity. I can’t recommend it as such but morbid curiosity I guess?

Henry and Heidi
Henry Rollins recounting storied from his past. Very entertaining if you have any love for Rollins

Idle Thumbs / Important If True
On hiatus right now but they tend to talk about games and technology from a slightly skewed angle. Consistently makes me laugh even if Sean can be a bit annoying with his constant interruptions (which was painful when they were on the bombcast last year)

Kermode and Mayo
If they stopped reading out bullshit emails about how the podcast revived someone’s dead child it would be much better but as is it’s still probably the best movie pod.

One More Go
They stopped doing it but I used to love this. One of the guys from 2 Good Boys and his mate each pick an old game and do some fairly deep dives on them. Since it’s retro it’s not really dated.

Constantly listening to stuff to make work less unbearable. A few examples that I listen to that also put out content regularly...

Gaming
Giant Bombcast & the Beastcast
One Life Left
Three Moves Ahead
Designer Notes
Tone Control

Outside of Gaming

The Moth
This American Life
The Dollop
Seriously...

There's obviously loads more, but are a little more erratic when it comes to scheduling. I need regular stuff to fill the gaping void at work.

Will give the old Porno one a spin at work tonight. :)

Stuff like Serial and S-Town are probably essential if you haven't checked them out already.

For a while I listened to The Cromcast, where three guys from various parts of the USA discussed Robert E. Howard stories and talked about each one for... an hour and a half?!

I stopped listening because I grew tired of how little the three of them understood the tales and kept getting facts wrong, as well as the constant "trash-talking" that seemed to take up most of the session. I emailed them with various corrections to the things they didn't know, or got blatantly wrong, but they never responded.

I listen to mostly tech nerd podcasts, but also Smodcast which is Kevin Smith. He's a great speaker in general, so I really enjoy listening to him and his mates hanging out and chatting shit.

Blindboy Podcast - One of the guys from The Rubber Bandits, hilarious and very informative.

The Dollop - Crazy stories from US history. They Duncan amazing one on Trump a while back.

Best Worst Movie Ever - Some ex Cracked.com people chatting about crap films while someone tries to defend it. Batman Forever episode had me in knots.

Last podcast on the left - probably my favourite. Crazy shit about super natural, murder and aliens. As mentioned the hosts can take a bit of getting used to but they are funny bastards.

Talking of Cracked.com... it's utter garbage these days, isn't it? Seems like all their best writers have left and most of the new articles are Photoshop galleries submitted by readers.

I think I've looked at Cracked once since they sacked pretty much everyone and it sucked balls.

When did this happen ?. Cracked sometimes is pretty funny but I agree that it is not as good in quality than a couple of years ago

A year or so ago I think. All the guys who did the video stuff (pretty much all the well known people) were given the boot. A good few of them jumped ship before it happened. On the upside there's a ton of new podcast shows out if it.

Analysis
Desert Island Discs
DLC
Film Sack
Freakonomics Radio
Friday Night Comedy
GameBurst
Hubblecast
Money Box
MSNBC Morning Joe (great show this)
Naked Astronomy
Newshour BBC World Service
PC Gamer UK (when they can be bothered)
Pod Save America
Seriously...
The /Filmcast
The Butterfly Effect
The Morning Stream
The PC Pro Podcast
The Spectator Podcast
Windows Weekly
Witness

I pick and choose what I want to listen to as it is impossible to listen to all of this in a week. I probably delete 60% of the podcasts and choose something that tickles me in a given time

Does nobody listen to The Computer Game Show? That's probably my favorite weekly podcast, with the guys who used to do Joypod.

Also, Serial season three is a fine return to form after the less interesting second season.

Been listening to Behind the Bastards podcast, really interesting. Its about scumbags past and present and how they affected world events. Just listened to one about Erik Prince the founder of Blackwater PMC, infamous for murdering hundreds of Iraqi civilians and causing untold chaos in the country. Also one on how the Regan's allows AIDS to go ignored in the 80's.

Great stuff.
