That is quite a line-up. System of a Down is a strange one for a headliner, to the best of my knowledge they haven't recorded anything now for years? That said, that is something that can be said for a number of bands in the line-up and SOAD always did put on a great live show.

For me, Opeth with Voivod supporting next Friday, then Amorphis and Eluveitie the week after \:D/

Didn't see you at the Opeth gig last night Ian, but then it was absolutely rammed in there.

We were in the circle Dave, about 6 feet from Bruce Dickinson and his son as it turned out :D

Didn't ask for selfies or take pictures (the guy with him did not look happy when someone else did), but was great to see him absolutely rocking his shit out to Opeth!

Edit: That fucking queue?!? Never seen anything like that there before.

Oh nice, I wouldn't have thought he'd be there. Was he properly into it then?

We arrived about 20 minutes before doors and managed to join at the end of the side alley just before the queue snaked all over the front of the building. We'd have been right in the middle in the pit near the front if we'd been bothered but it was more chill to hang back on the slope and get a full view of the stage from a bit further back. Made the bar trips easier too.

Bit of a mixed set for me. Great show but the pacing lulled a bit with all the slow songs in the middle and I really am not into Black Rose Immortal.

Ah I quite enjoyed the set. Black Rose Immortal is not a favourite of mine, but to see them bang out a 20+ minute song was quite something. Ghost of Perdition (The Grand Conjuration would have been my GR choice), Demon of the Fall and The Moor are all stone cold bangers. There was nice variation in the set too, songs I have not heard live much. Oh, and Folklore > The Devil's Orchard from Heritage.

Yeah, really enjoyed it. Mikael's growls were on point, and Valttieri is a solid addition to the line-up, great drummer with loads of groove and feel. Oh, and Fred's fucking playing is just mighty!

Amorphis with Eluveitie support this coming Friday. Yus!

And just back in from Amorphis, what a great night. Four bands on the bill, missed the first and can't recall the name, but then Dark Tranquillity, Eluveitie and Amorphis.

Awesome bands all, Eluveitie get special mention for having bagpipes, flutes, a harp, a hurdy gurdy, a violin, a lute and probably others as well as the usual instruments. Made for a busy stage, but a decent band. Amorphis absolutely fucking owned it too, so damned tight.

Saw Heilung last night and they were great. It taps into the primal instincts a bit and feels really...Connective?

Pretentious sounding or not, I had a great time.

Went to see Editors last night, fucking amazing band to see live. Gig was about 2 hours long and I wasn't bored or distracted for even a second of it.

Back from Katatonia and it was an enjoyable set, but I have to say, Solstafir stole the show for me. Quality from start to finish.

I had next to no experience of their music before the gig and I'm now a fan.

Edit: serves me right for using mt phone...

Not heard of these guys before, they're great. Love the vibes of it.

Gojira and Alien Weaponry next week for me. Can't wait for that.

Apparently Solstafir write some amazing lyrics too, but as it is all in Icelandic I haven't a clue what they are singing about :)

Gojira and Alien Weaponry next week for me too, at the Ally Pally which is a brilliant venue. Also can't wait for that!

I saw Gojira last night and it was a good show, nice and varied set.

I wasn't really into Alien Weaponry, but I can respect their mix of mauri culture into their tunes, just not really for me.

Enjoy it when the time arrives, fellas!

Great show. Alien Weaponry were great, pretty sure they had a bigger circle pit going than Gojira did.

The Gojira setlist was excellent. In all the chaos of Alien Weaponry I ended up being two in from the barrier too.
