VR!
Re: VR!
I've actually heard some disappointing things about the Index. The screen quality is good, but apparently the god rays aren't a whole lot better than that first generation of headsets. It's also supposedly unpleasant to wear for long periods because it doesn't breathe as well as other headsets. The system overheads of the resolution and refresh rate are also problematic. I think most of the issues come down to the thing costing a small fortune, and there just isn't enough software support for a £900 headset and controllers to be worth it just yet.
I can't corroborate any of this as I've not tried it, but it did make me feel a little better about going for the Rift S.

Re: VR!
The reason I ask is a friend of mine's son is interested in buying my Rift 2nd hand, and if there is a good enough deal to be done I might take it and jump to the Index.

Re: VR!
Upgrade from the Vive so was pretty cheap as it was headset only swap for me.
Been busy at work so not had much time to test it.
It's very resource hungry first time in a while that I'm thinking about upgrading my 1080.
I think I've made the mistake of installing something called fpsvr which adds a little tool on the bottom of your virtual controller which now means I can be instantly told of how bad it's performing even it feels ok
2 new games I've bought both play awfully but it's the games rather than the headset - No man's sky update and Dirt Rally 2.0.
All other games seem (to my eyes) very similar to the vive. I assume it must be better with the greater resolution but I get so involved in the game that I probably never noticed things like SDE etc.
But still early days yet. I'm fiddling with motion smoothing (the Steam version of oculus' Asynchorous spacewarp) and trying to lock it at something like 60 fps and boosting it up to 120 with the smoothing. Works in some games not all.
I need moar powa!

Re: VR!
I jumped to an RTX 2080 when my old 980 went pop, so should have the powahhh. Just not convinced I want to spend £700-ish (£900 but would still be £700 of my own cash).

Like Father Like Son, the weird Groundhog Day sequel is out today...
Anyone with a fancy helmet got or getting it.

Re: VR!
I read somewhere that steam didn't have the 'compatible with WMR/Index' headsets. It should work but it seems like a lot of money to test it.
Although I suppose I could refund if it doesn't work.
Is it a play once and once only type of game as the puzzles would the same for every playthrough.
Gah, I need to read some reviews I trust now.

Re: VR!
Ooh... so does this mean the only thing the S has over the quest is a slightly better refresh rate? Quest also has a higher rez screen too....
I’m tempted.

Re: VR!
I have just bought 'The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets' which looks like a nice gentle, diorama exploring, puzzley thing. And 'Gladius' which is a bit like Blade and Sorcery but also has chariot racing
