Uhh i've also been playing some stuff on the Sega Saturn. Gave Bulk Slash a try and got hooked. Got so hooked onto the game that I strained my left thumb tendon.
The Saturn has a good d-pad but the frantic arcade action and constant holding down the d-pad did no favours for my aging thumb.
No gaming for a while now!

Donut County
This is a strange, vaguely relaxing non-game, about a mischievous racoon who creates holes beneath things. It's vaguely like Katamari Damacy I guess, in that the more things you consume, the larger the hole grows, but the gameplay (basically steering a hole around a map) isn't all that important, and it's more a surreal little story. I'm not sure I'd recommend it, but it's at most a couple of hours long, so it's not exactly a bit time commitment.
That being said, I quite enjoy these extremely short games, something I can blast through in one sitting and not have to find the time to finish it.

Same. When I said I wouldn't recommend it, it's more because it's not something I think everyone would enjoy. It's about as far from my usual faire as I can get as there's basically zero challenge to it.
As mentioned in the Gamepass thread, I also tried Perfect Dark: Zero, which I remember quite enjoying back at the launch of the 360. I really instantly hated it, because the aiming control is just so painfully slow that it feels like all of the levels are actually underwater, but the water is treacle, and Ms. Dark hasn't had any scuba training. It's basically unplayable now. That being said, I also hated the more recent Halo games on console for similar reasons (although even Halo 4 wasn't nearly as bad as PDZ), so it's entirely possible it's just that I'm completely unused to FPS on an analogue stick these days.

I think it may have been on GP at one point, I've definitely played it and enjoyed it, but don't recall paying for it.

Plague Tale Innocence
So that was good till about chapter 10 when it just jumped the shark something awful. Maybe they ran out of money and had to truncate the story making the back half a bit daft. It was decent all in I suppose a solid 3.5/5 game.

Yeah, I never did finish that. I guess I played maybe half to two-thirds of the way through, but kind of reached a point where I stopped and moved onto other things before forgetting about it. I'ts fine, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

Re: Currently Playing
I don't think it really escalated that much, the story was already pretty weird before the ending. I really enjoyed the game and I'm looking forward to the sequel.
Re: Currently Playing
It was a bit strange but grounded in its reality. Then suddenly there was the hallucination chase for no reason, the very silly chapter after that, then the big badass going where he did with no backup for no reason at all, then the hilarious arrow based death that was played for feels then that super silly final boss. The black waves vs the white waves had a great look though.
Trying to be as vague as possible
I’m looking forward to the sequel but with more trepidation than I would like.

Been meaning to play it for a while now, bet it'll leave Game Pass before I get around to it. There's a TV adaption in the works.

I thought it had a mystical bent from the start so none of that stuff felt particularly off to me.Alan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:51 amIt was a bit strange but grounded in its reality. Old School Runescape
I've been catching up on a series I started watching a few years ago where someone limits themselves to one area of the Runescape map and tries to beat the hardest dungeon in the game. Watching the series made me interested in trying out Runescape so I booted it up last week. There is something about the old school grind that I liked but the fact that a lot of the best skills were locked behind the subscription eventually put me off. However I realised I had a months free membership from Amazon Prime so I went back in and I'm enjoying it a lot more. I spent a good chunk of yesterday taking my 2k gold and turning it into over 60k by flipping stuff on the grand exchange which was very satisfying.

I finished Bloodborne! Gaming PTSD aside, it’s an extraordinary game that has changed me somewhat. I’ve never really played games for the challenge, but for fun and relaxation, or a more laid-back slow challenge like with grand strategy games. After bouncing hard off Dark Souls several times, Demon’s Souls eventually showed me that I could handle this sort of challenge and that I could enjoy it. Elden Ring has so far shown me that FromSoft’s rich worlds and complex, esoteric stories are worth the effort. Bloodborne, though, has made me not simply tolerate the difficulty but absolutely love it and appreciate it in a totally new way.
I think what Bloodborne does so well (at least more effectively than other Soulsbourne games) is teach you why failure is good, for a few reasons. Failure is built into the design - the game expects you to die and to learn why you died, and so you improve. But also thematically the game wants you to experience the nightmare you’re in, to feel the hopelessness of what you’re facing and yet persevere anyway, because the end result is that every victory, large or small, is pure elation. It’s the failure that makes the eventual success so rewarding, but the most important thing is that the failure never became a slog for me. I was clamouring to get a few minutes in the game whenever I could.
So it’s back to Elden Ring next, and then I’m determined to punch the daylights out of Dark Souls once and for all, newly-armed with a shred of skill and an appreciation of getting my arse handed to me.

I finally got gzDoom running on switch. Not really sure why it was hard crashing before now but its working and now I played a whole bunch of hours of Brutal Doom on switch even though its not exactly the best way to play. Probably going to replay Strife on it now....
When I was done with that I thought I'd try Raytraced Doom out of curiosity and ended up playing hours of that. Its incredible but not a preferable way to play Doom in any way because theres a lot of charm lost in it but its quite incredible all the same.
edit: just noticed DF did a video on it.
I also finally got round to Cyberpunk and my initial reaction is that it feels strangely ancient. I think its mostly the level design where a lot of the scale feels off to me, especially that office building near the corpo start. After looking forward to it for some time but waiting for the big patch its a bit of a bitter first taste not even mentioning the driving but I'll keep going past the bad teething.

Hitman 3.
Crepes almighty the last bunch of levels really are something. China especially since that entire area is pretty much like New York from Deus Ex. Topside civilian area with many building to enter, and a whole secret facility under the city to expore.
Also due to the plot no-one is making comments or talking in a earpiece to you! THATS WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE FROM THE VERY FIRST MISSION FFS.
Also my left thumb tendon still aches. Tendon injury ain't no joke people.
