I'm glad at least someone in the press is taking about this. I've long found Bethesda's games difficult to get into because the characters are so lifeless. The facial animations, or lack thereof, and the framing in dialogues have barely changed since Oblivion, and the voice delivery is always so monotonous. It's clearly a choice otherwise they'd surely have fixed it in the last 15 years.

Bethesda no doubt see certain aspects as their modus operandi, advance in other areas but stick firmly to what they believe helped Skyrim sell over and over again from generation to generation. It kind of makes sense.
Building the future, and keeping the past alive - are one and the same thing.

Slightly misleading of Microsoft advertising it as a 4k title on xbox when that's only through upscaling.

I really don't like this stuff as it locks out people with different graphics cards and ultimately wont really move the needle on AMD cards.

I think the big takeaway from the article is the lack of dlss, which is superior to fsr and would doubtless help those with less powerful nvidia cards.

But isn't it the case that the game will likely play fine (or as fine as you would expect for Bethesda) on both AMD and nvidia cards on PC anyway? Or am I missing something here? Plus, surely they were always going to partner with AMD anyway due to the console market.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a storm in a teacup because FSR2 ends up making very little difference to DLSS in a game like Starfield.

I agree, I think all it comes down to is dlss previously being the difference between a playable and an unplayable game in some cases and folk getting pissed in this instance at not even having the option.
As you say, I expect it'll be a fuss about nothing in the end.

It feels like an odd decision to do this type of hardware platform exclusivity. You annoy the people with the opposing company's hardware, and is this sort of boost in a single game really going to sell AMD products? While I've not got the numbers, I generally assume Nvidia have the larger market share in the GPU market as I don't think AMD were truly competitive on anything but price until recently, so Bethesda are irritating more of their PC audience than they're pleasing. And at the end of the day, console players are probably going to be a huge chunk of this game's player-base and they have no say in their hardware anyway because this isn't even coming to Playstation.

Apparently Starfield is very CPU heavy to the point where that's more likely to be a bottleneck than the GPU, so I imagine DLSS wouldn't have a huge impact on framerate.

Apparently this is an amd thing blocking dlss in partnered games. This is so dumb. I don’t even use dlss and this annoys me.

Yeah the issue here is that AMD tend not to allow other forms of deep learning to boost framerate so DLSS and XeSS wont work meaning those with Intel and Nvidia cards may end up with a lesser experience.

It looks like an amazing experience overall, I'd love a Skyrim-in-Space game, but I'm not fanboi'ing like a maniac. If it means I'll have a significantly less experience at release, then I'll just wait a couple years, once the mods are settled and the price has tanked. If they save me some money, that's okay. I've got dozens of games that I've never finished, I'm set.
