Re: The Big Steam Bargains Thread

I bought a fair bit, nothing very expensive, mainly as I had a yin to play a very particular kind of space game - something where you had a crew, fly out to derelicts and salvage them while engaging in tactical combat, sort of thing - which turns out apparently doesn't exist. So I bought a few space games that sounded vaguely interesting in the hope they might scratch that itch.

They didn't - the two that came closest were StarCrawlers, a sci-fi Dungeon Master-esque crawler thing, and Star Traders Frontiers, which is like a 2D top-down Elite kinda, which was fun for a while but after saving and buying the best ship I abruptly felt like I'd seen and had enough. At 20+ hours played though I feel like I got my money's worth.

Others were Heat Signature (which I may play more of), Galaxy Squad (which sounds great but is sadly utter pants), while I also bought Just Cause 3 (fun), and Legend of Grimrock 2 (also fun).

Haven't totted it up, but probably something like £20-25 for the lot.

I had Galaxy Squad on my list for a while but took it off in the end.

One of those three might be similar to what you are after.

I also just found this, which someone mentioned in their review of one of those games above, looks interesting (Early Access though):

And that's the story of why I'm not allowed near pregnant women for the next few weeks.

It was four quid something, honest. Sales over unfortunately.

That's the disadvantage of the forum embedding thing. It makes you look mental when the price reverts back. I think I'll start sticking the price at the time underneath just for future reference.

Although £50 for a 2 year old game?! They're clearly on the glue.

It was, honest guvnor. Although I wouldn't worry too much if you missed it. Sure it's no colonial marines but it's far from a classic.

In fact I may have a boxed copy still sealed somewhere if you want it?

It's ok, I bought it when it first came out and unlikely to want to replay it, just joshing you :)

AvP was alright actually. Not sure how well the later story mode levels worked out but the multiplayer was quite a lot of fun, though it's totally devoid of players now I imagine.

It kind of develved into trying to run behind homeone while mashing the use key. Wasn't awful but not amazing.
