I caved and bought Unavowed by Wadjet Eye games -- a supernatural-themed point-and-click adventure.

This one makes a considerable leap in technical progress over their previous games (the first one that runs in HD resolution). The story is very engaging, and the graphics are beautiful. It also has a very streamlined interface. I'd say it is 80% conversation, 20% puzzles. If you like your point-and-clicks with a darker, more serious tone, I highly recommend this one.

Yeah, it's been sitting on my Steam wishlist for a while, just waiting for a bit more of a discount than it's had thus far.

Quoted from the tabletop games thread, but replying here so as not to clutter up that thread:

BTW WB, just noticed one of the Youtubers I follow just started a Gloomhaven PC campaign, could be worth a gander:

So after posting that I did buy the PC early access version, and have since played the first mission, which is effectively three linked maps that culminates in a bunch of XP, loot etc.

My early thoughts for anyone thinking about it is it's good, and I've not encountered any bugs despite other Steam users claiming they have. It is bare bones, at this stage offering just 4 playable heroes out of an eventual 17, and half a dozen or so enemy types compared to a couple of dozen for the finished version.

Each map so far has consisted of 2-4 rooms each with differing numbers of enemies to defeat and probably takes in the region of 30 minutes to complete - the mechanics mean that while you won't be making vast numbers of moves, you do spend a fair while thinking about the various permutations available to you and trying to plot out not merely the best route to victory, but also the most efficient.

You see, while each hero has a set deck of cards (I've not counted but 10 or thereabouts each, some have more than others), after using them they get greyed out and can't be reused until you rest (effectively giving up a turn to regain your exhausted cards). Worse, some of the more powerful abilities on said cards mean burning the card for the rest of the encounter, so they can't be restored through resting. And then, to rest, you have to burn one of the exhausted cards for the rest of the map in order to restore the others.

What this means is there's a constant, gradual depletion of your available deck as the map wears on, even if you don't use the abilities that burn them outright. And if you run out of cards, that's it, the hero is considered to be exhausted and exits the map, to be restored ahead of the next one. If both your heroes get exhausted, you lose.

It can be nerve-wracking stuff. On the final map of the first scenario I played, one of my two heroes got exhausted as she entered the last room, containing five enemies. My second hero then had to defeat them singlehandedly with his meagre selection of available cards, having to rest every other turn while taking a beating and whittling his deck down further. I eventually beat the last enemy with my last turn before I would have become exhausted and lost, as it was I emerged victorious and felt pretty satisfied.

If you're considering getting it - for what it's worth while what's there is fun I think the amount on offer at this point means you'd probably tire of it currently after a few hours' play - I really recommend watching the video above, which does a great job of explaining the mechanics. Even as someone who has never played the boardgame, I was able to play the PC version well despite the complete absence (right now) of a tutorial or tool-tips.

Titanfall 2 - Y'know, it's honestly a bit weird that I haven't played this game that checks almost every tickbox in my head for things I want from a shooter; satisfying gunplay, interesting movement mechanics, well-reviewed, sci-fi setting, big stompy robots etc. until now. I'm not sure there's much I can say that people haven't been saying for years, but suffice to say I'm rather enjoying this.

A Short Hike

I highly recommend this game, I played it back in April when it was a Humble Original and it's just recently released properly on Steam and itch.io. It's a short game about a penguin who must get to the top of a mountain and along the way he meets various people and completes various tasks. It is a wonderfully peaceful game with lovely graphics and very good music and is currently the front runner for my game of the year. I heartily recommend that people pick it up as it's just such a nice experience.

I'm perilously close to delving back into Witcher 3, having finished my last bout of it at Christmas.

Please someone talk me out of it.

Do you own it? If so, play it now! In particular, the Blood & Wine expansion contains some of the best content in the game.

Goddammit... I'm replaying it, aren't I?

Both DLC are excellent.

FFS, this is becoming inevitable. ](*,) I do kind of want to replay with Geralt being a jerk to everyone wherever possible.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall

This is a bit good, takes lots of stuff from Civ, adds in a load of sci-fi stuff and then throws XCOM style tactical combat on top.

I played AoW 3 (or rather some of it, it's a huge game I never came close to completing), was pretty good. At £42 though I feel like it will be a while before this drops to the kind of price I'd be looking to pay.

Yeah, probably will at that. Bought a few things recently, individually fairly cheap but has added up a bit... not least £15 on Automachef only for it go free on Twitch Prime days later :x
