Just finished a replay of the first Witcher game. In some areas it's not aged well (not least it's attitude to women), but overall it's still a surprisingly good game. The story is decent and makes a lot more sense now that I have a solid grounding in the world of the Witcher. The combat... I've always had a soft spot for it, even though it's arguably a bag of balls based almost entirely around simple timing. The one thing that stood out as terrible that I don't remember bothering me before is the quest tracking, which is flat out broken at times. I think I've been spoiled by the hand-holding of modern games, when detailed quest tracking with accurate map pointers was relatively primitive back in 2007. There was also a comedy bug where hair and beards would flap about wildly like a distressed kipper during cutscenes, apparently something to do with v-sync issues (I spent a while attempting to fix it to no avail, and eventually decided it was funny enough to endure).

On the whole I'm impressed it stands up as well as it does today, despite various problems. Onto the Witcher 2, which - to my shame - I've never actually finished. Surely this will be the time!

W2 is a very good game, and not all that long either by modern RPG standards. Think a relaxed playthrough runs to about 30 hours or thereabouts.

Of the three games, 2 is the one that never fully clicked with me for some reason. I'm hoping that now I've got a better context for things I'll engage with it more easily. I did get as far as Loc Muine once, but never finished that chapter.

I don't think I could go back to the first game, it had a lot of issues when I played it the year after release that would probably only look worse now.

Picked up Escape From Tarkov from the sale they had and been pretty much adrenaline highs with it. I am terrible at it and die a lot but the tension of looting bodies knowing the slightest sound could be someone (AI/Real person) creeping up on you, gets that heart pumping real fast.

Only done Factory so far as Scav and PMC. Managed to get out 2 times with loot I stole. Other times I was fumbling for heals or someone got me from behind or had full body armour on and took practically nothing from a shotgun. Or couldn't get out from being lost.

Movement and animations are top notch. You have a lot of control over your speed, how much you lean out, side step out and you can feel the weight of the gear and your body. Especially if you sprint for cover or go prone. Nice touches is the way you see how much ammo you have in mags since you have no hud barring your stance and stamina. With a speed gauge in the bottom left. Graphically it is very impressive looking and of course gives off DayZ/Stalker vibes from the looted, crumbling buildings. Nice textures and models throughout. Sounds are also really good from what I've noticed and really do help you in locating if gunfire/walking sound is under/above or near you. Something that Pubg has seriously bad issues with.

I do suggest to watch some guides on the various stuff as it is information overload otherwise. I'm still yet to grasp the basics of what is good to keep and try to escape with. The ammo types best used and where to get them and maps. So far having a lot of fun in the short time playing :)

Bought EFT too. Played a few offline missions and managed to get out (playing against EASY bots).
Then done a few scav runs on Customs but have died every time.

Too scared to do a proper PMC run yet.
Might have to learn another map as Customs is too linear and has too many choke points

I've watched some streams and thought about buying it but the whole nonsense around female character models has put me off.

I did read about some rather stupid comments they put out. Don't think it impacted the game much but does speak volumes about the guy running their twitter account.

The original comments about women not being able to cope with war were terribly sexist and have been attributed to one person but the developers have also come out and said that they wont be putting female character models into the game because they don't have enough resources. This was an argument that was dumb back where Ubisoft tried to make it around multiplayer in one of the AC games and is only more so now. Doesn't reflect well on the developer when you have multiple issues around sex.

RDR2 online still. Exclusively. Not played anything else, I love just roaming levelling up Collector and making bags of cash from the stuff I find.

My evening cycle at the moment is to equip my metal detector (makes the controller vibrate when you are close to a hidden treasure) And riding until I find something - bracelets, arrowheads, rings, whatever. I then hop onto YouTube and find the item - all items are randomised daily to one of three locations, but the whole set will be on the same daily cycle. I use the YouTube guide to identify where on the map the other items are, and ride to collect each in turn. I keep the metal detector out though, and pick up several random items along the way, which means whichever set I am collecting that day I already have some of the items in my pack.

Once I have the set, I head to the Collector NPC and hand it in for a wad of cash and bucketload of XP. The items can be sold singly but are worth a load more as a set.

Then I go bounty hunting, brew some 'shine, hunt wanted players or just generally have fun.

Love this game...

GTA5, because some days you just want to cause a massacre and then ride off into the sunset in your own personal blimp.

I'm determined to actually play this game all the way through. When it first came out I got a fair way into the story, but my save game corrupted and I couldn't get my progress back. The second time, the PC version just continually blue screened and caused hard resets after about ten hours. This time I'm on XBox One, so I'm expecting a smoother ride.

This time the game will undoubtedly get taken off of Gamepass when I'm at 90% completion.

Finished Witcher 2. This time it finally did click - I'm not sure if it was better familiarity with the witcher universe or simply coming fresh off the first game, but I loved it right until the end this time. The only niggle I still have is the annoying locked camera that swings up and down as Geralt hops off a ledge, which nearly made me dizzy in the area near the kayran where there's about five ledges in a row. Otherwise it's a cracking game that I regret not fully appreciating until now.

Glad you liked it, it's a very good game that really only suffers in comparison to W3.

So, the big question:
Spoiler
Roche or Iorveth? :)
