I also hate the way that they claim they're doing this to break Steam's stranglehold on the PC gaming industry. No, you're in it for the money. You're spending these hundreds of millions of dollars to earn thousands of millions of dollars in the future. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad developers are getting large payments out of this, but I don't buy this whole altruism angle they're pushing.

Epic is spending $2 on 3rd party games for every $1 in gets back in return in store spending. :-"

The thing about them wanting to take on Steam's 30% cut is obviously a mask for them wanting to take the market share for themselves, but I don't think they realise just how much Steam actually offers to its user base. The eco system is huge and benefits both developers and customers, it has big picture mode for easy TV streaming, easy compatibility features for a huge host of different controllers, a large community section with features for every title and support for mods. They earn that 30%.

What does Epic offer? A friends list.

Well, I've tken everything they've given away for free, played a lot of them. I used the £10 vouchers to get some good deals too.
It's all golden for me :)

Same for me, but have you noticed that the free offerings are mostly dogshit now? I used to log in every few days just out of interest - I don't any more, and those massive bastard banners they run up the right of the screen means that in the occasion that I do take a look, I force-quit shortly afterwards.

all true. Unless Epic can constantly undercut Steam prices - whats the point going there ?

They don't really undercut them from what I've seen. It's nice that the developers get a bigger cut of the sales but there's very little incentive for me to ever buy anything from Epic over Steam.

The £10 vouchers during sales were pretty good and I picked up a couple of good deals using those, but outside of that offer I don't think they ever beat Steam on price.

The extra competition in the market is good for consumers but I think Steam is insurmountable at this point. Subscription services have a better chance at knocking their numbers down and only big companies like Microsoft can afford to eat the enormous early losses that business model generates.

I agree. I like the fact GOG is offering DRM free and a client that tries into integrate all games from other clients but Epic is only really useful in picking up free games. Have not spent a penny on the platform yet.

I've not even signed up on the Epic store. Between a backlog of unplayed past purchases and Gamepass, it's not like the free games would make much of a difference to me. Plus I still have trust issues after their initial security gaffes.

I mostly signed up because I wanted to play Satisfactory and then have used a few of the coupons to buy some really cheap games and picked up a good amount of free games. I doubt I'll be using it over Steam any time soon though.
