The terrain / cover mechanics are potentially game-changing, it depends on how extensively they're used. I think Homeworld 2 had some very basic terrain mechanics (nebulae or other gas clouds I think that obscured your probes) and they were certainly a point of interest, but they weren't used frequently enough to make a significant impact on gameplay.

Honestly I'm not sure how much new stuff I'd actually need; I haven't played HW2 in over 15 years, and it's not a game style that I think I've come across since.
Cover does look interesting but I was never massive fan of HW2. I found it pretty inferior to the first in most ways. It was very much a cased of overcomplicating a perfect recipe for me.

Good to know I'm on the same wavelength as the devs; they spend a lot of that talking about the terrain and controlling your ships around it. I really want to see it in action though, as given they talk about it being easier to control than in open space, they could almost be talking about context actions rather than free control.

I'm guessing the original two-word pitch for Atomic Heart was "Soviet Bioshock".

This really grabbed my attention when the first footage was released, but the latest trailer makes it look incredible. It's got the most amazing enemy designs, and they're all animated extremely well from what that trailer shows. I really hope it plays as well as it looks. It just so happens to be on Game Pass at launch too.

Colour me very interested, depending on reviews of the gameplay obviously.

More Mafia is always welcome. Been meaning to finish off part 3 lately.
The May rumor indicated that the new Mafia game will be built in Unreal Engine 5 rather than the proprietary engine used for the previous games, and more interestingly it will reportedly be a prequel to the existing trilogy.
I was hoping they'd go with the 1970's and early 80's.

20 years ago I bought the original in WH Smith just weeks after release—for £14.99. It is criminal that it did so poorly early on, it was a wonderful experience that I repeated every year for many years afterwards. Anyway, it will be free on Steam, from the 1st to the 5th of September to celebrate that very anniversary:

Oh, and there is this...
We are excited to inform you that Crystal Dynamics has taken control of several game franchises—including TOMB RAIDER and Legacy of Kain—from the games’ previous owner, Square Enix Limited.

As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or its affiliate) is now the owner of these games and the controller of the gameplay and personal data related to them.

Classic stuff. I loved the AA in that game and got pretty good at it :)
Tanks were scary but if you manage dto flank them, they were a one shot :)
Jeep races.
Practicing balancing the whole team on the wings of an aircraft to get a fast deploy on the enemy base (and get told of that wasn't the done thing in a proper league match)

Those were the days :)
