Fair enough, but I'd be surprised if Stadia didn't do the same. They haven't even launched yet, so they're not going to start talking about what happens if they fail.

It would've been cool if when the bitrate dropped after buffering it was actually original DOOM.

It increasingly seems to be a train-wreck waiting to happen.

It is latency which will make or break this. If there is a so much as a 1/2 second delay - this is dead in the water.

On a similar topic there have been good reports about xCloud, Microsoft's streaming service and they have been trying to simulate real life a bit more by having the data centres in San Francisco. They have been using wired connections though due to how bad wifi can be at E3.

I can vouch for that - wifi at the LA Conference Center doesn't exist !

Once you get a code from a publisher and you want to surf the web you hang around their booth

The lawnmower comment at the end is a laugh

JS fears that streaming could get out of hand depends whether Stadia is a success. Yesterday I had a meeting with Microsoft and they said that GamePass was making solid subscription numbers but from what I gathered it is not making gang busters. As long as you can "buy" games (or more likely the licence of a game) subscriptions is just another way to access games and gives gamers choice. Publishers want to maximise revenue so I suspect exclusive only games via subscription will not be a thing, but than again I am have been wrong a lot of times when it comes to this industry

It had been unclear whether these games would cost full-price on Stadia, given you're simply streaming them as opposed to buying a disc or downloading the game onto a hard-drive. But in a roundtable interview with UK games press this morning, attended by Eurogamer, Stadia chief Phil Harrison indicated Stadia games will cost the same as they do on other platforms such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - that is, they won't be cheaper.

"I don't know why it would be cheaper," Harrison replied when Eurogamer asked.

So, how does Stadia justify charging full-price for a video game you can only stream? By making it available to play on any screen, Harrison said.

"The value you get from the game on Stadia means you can play it on any screen in your life - TV, PC, laptop, tablet, phone," he said. "I think that is going to be valuable to players."

I don’t know why anyone would expect it to be cheaper. You’re buying the game plus essentially unlimited use of hardware that’s not your own. I’m surprised the subscription is free sub 4K.
