The Gamers' Arms Game of the Year Awards

Post by DjchunKfunK » Sat Jan 18, 2020 10:57 am

Welcome everyone to the Gamers' Arms Game of the Year Awards 2019

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and thank you to all the developers and publishers who worked towards making these great games. Before I start just a few bits of info about the Awards. I am using a new scoring system this year which follows that used in Formula 1, as it more heavily favours people's first picks which I think is a fairer way of doing the vote. As per usual some of the categories had just the one vote for multiple games, including the biggest surprise category. In that case I took into consideration where the games finished in the overall Game of the Year vote and placed them accordingly. Finally a shoutout to the person who voted for the same game in their top five and as their worst game of the year. Really confused or only played five games this year, you decide.

So without further ado here are the awards.

*Just a note on this, RDR 2 featured highly in the overall vote but as it was also voted on last year and 'officially' came out in 2018 I decided to give it it's due here instead.

Oh... you were doing a best game of the decade also? I hadn't realised, I would have voted on that.

Saw the thread title and assumed it was just 2019. (Didn't buy a new game last year so stayed out of it).

Although I doubt my vote would have stopped Witcher 3 winning it! :)

Is it telling that only one of the top five was a big budget game? In fact, weren't at least two of those produced by just a single person? Is that indicative of the industry as a whole or just us lot?

That would have been me, wouldn't it?

It's like I said in the poll thread:

Well, that was slightly sobering, struggled to name 5 new games from this year I played, three on my list were ones I paid for ages ago in Early Access and went 1.0 this year, and one of those (Cube World) was shite
5 (new) games played last year, one was fairly crap and hence also my worst game and in my top 5!

Hmmm 4 of 5 of the top 5 I haven't played (Untitled Goose Game being the exception).

Slay the Spire I don't think is my kind of game, so while glad folks like it I won't pick that up. The others though, when RDR2 Online finally lets me go, I may well bag!
