Sega Genesis Mini/Mega Drive Mini will release worldwide on September 19, featuring 40 games, which will differ between North America, Europe, and Japan regions. There are two different SKUS, with one coming with one controller, and the other coming with two.

The Mega Drive Mini is being developed by M2, and is set to have new menu music by prolific former Sega composer Yuzo Koshiro. The physical unit itself has various sliding switches and you can also push down the cartridge slot cover, recreating the original console’s buttons. The console has HDMI output, and the Genesis/Mega Drive controllers are USB-based.

I forget sometimes just how rubbish the original Mega Drive controllers were, especially when compared to the SNES ones. Half the number of buttons, with masses of unused space given that they were actually quite big.

The Mega Drive D-Pad was and is vastly superior to the SNES one, though.

I really don't see the point in this one given that 'all time great' Mega Drive game collections with 30+ titles in have been available on both Steam and PSN/Xbox Live for years now.

The biggest reason is that M2 are doing the emulation and this is a cheaper way of getting all the titles together. M2 have been doing a stellar job with the stuff they have been bringing to Switch but it is quite pricey.
