Okay, so since this is the first mission I'll make a few recommendations in a sec.

I'd like you all to have a look at the enemy stats in the above post and see the dice they all have for firing and hand to hand (H2H), just to get an idea of how strong some of them are. Check out their armour values too.

As you can see, the Dreadnought is an absolute beast... and your objective is to destroy it. It has 2 x Red dice + 2 x White dice for H2H combat and it has 3 life points and 4 armour. along with 2 heavy weapons! Which makes it a tough bastard.

So therefore I'd recommend the Power Glove and Power Sword for your commander along with the Melta Bomb equipment card. The other cards I'll leave to you. I'd also recommend taking all 3 heavy weapons for your 4 marines.

You can choose 1 Order Card and 4 equipment cards in total for this mission.

Next up I'm going to quickly mention how dice/combat and armour works...

So, red and white dice. We simply use D6 for these. Use the D&D dice roller website (https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm) to get the required number of random D6 results, and then copy/paste it into your forum post when describing your actions.

The important bit here: For red dice, we ignore 4, 5 & 6 on the dice result.
For white dice, we ignore 3, 4, 5 & 6 on the dice result!

To fire at an enemy, you need line of sight, and your total score must exceed their armour value. All enemies apart from the Dreadnought only have 1 HP. For units with more than 1 HP (Commanders and Dreadnoughts), the amount of damage dealt is the total minus the Armour value - so if 5 damage was rolled and the target Armour is 2, the target would lose 3 HP.

For hand to hand combat, we both roll our H2H combat dice and the highest score wins. It bypasses armour completely, so it's incredibly risky for Space Marines. When it comes to units with more than 1HP (Commanders and Dreadnoughts), the difference between the H2H scores is the amount of HP that is lost.

So now that's all done, all I'll need from each of you is your weapon & card choices, along with the sequence you'd like your marines lined up in the docking claws (which are identified by your chapter insignia):

Take your time getting acquainted with things. (I'll remove the docking claws once you've all entered the map)

What are the stats (HP and Armor etc) for our marines? Also just to clarify, we can only have one heavy weapon of each type but can have one of each if desired, so a marine with a plasma gun, assault cannon and missile launcher, leaving only one with a basic bolter?

I've just updated the top post with the Marine reference cards. Armour for all marines is 2. HP for all marines is 1, apart from the commander who has 6 HP.

Also, yes you're correct. You can carry 1 x Plasma gun, 1 x Assault cannon, 1 x Missile Launcher in your squad. Which leaves 1 with the Bolter.

Ah yeah, 4 marines total my mistake.

Does the Fire! order apply to H2H combat?

No, just firing from distance.

The cards are pretty good in differentiating between firing and H2H generally.

Btw, some info on how the 3 heavy weapons fire:

The Missile Launcher fires at a target square, dealing the total damage to that square. The surrounding 8 squares receive the damage from the highest die roll only. So if you rolled a 1 & 3, the centre square would get hit for 4 damage and the rest would get 3 damage.

The Plasma Gun only fires in straight lines on the game board, including diagonally. But every single target along that line receives the full damage. (Probably the most powerful weapon in the game).

The Assault Cannon can have its total damage shared between multiple targets. So with a 1 & 3 you could use 2 damage to kill one Ork and the other 2 damage to kill another Ork, etc.

Think I've done this right then:
Spoiler
Sgt Valius - Power Glove and Power Sword
Battle Brother Gadreel - Bolter
Battle Brother Ruhiel - Bolter
Battle Brother Fane - Missile Launcher
Battle Brother Ortez - Plasma Gun

Order - Move it!
Equipment - Medi-Kit - Bolt Pistols - Digital Weapons - Blind Grenades

And regarding order:
Bolter and Missile at the front
Bolter and Plasma second
Commander last

Thanks Maturin. Will update later, I'm on the netbook this evening and I can't make out the wording on the equipment cards - have tried magnifying the display but for some reason it doesn't make the image any bigger (maybe because it's a wide one?)!

That's perfect, thanks Mantis.

One thing regarding the Melta Bomb equipment card I should mention - it's a bit ambiguous whether it's allowed to be used by the commander or not. I've seen most people online play it so that he is allowed to use it, so I'll allow it too. It just means if you come up against a Dreadnought, the commander with power glove would have 4 x red dice and 2 x white dice in H2H combat.

(The difference between the attacking/defending H2H scores is the amount of HP that is taken off, which I should have mentioned earlier!)

Cool. Yeah I've searched high and low for better scans, but they were the best I could find. I should have ordered some on ebay and rescanned them myself.

On my 1920x1080 21" monitor they're okay. Have you tried saving them to disk and using Windows Photo Viewer to zoom in a bit?

There's no rush by the way so don't worry, we can just treat tonight/tomorrow as setting the game up.

Oh, I'm sure it'll be fine when I'm at my desktop PC, just the smaller netbook screen where I'm struggling. I'll check them out before I shut down for the night and make my selection :)
