The Absolute State Of It - It's The UK Politics Thread!
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
Boris Johnson used his leadership victory speech to call Britain lazy and essentially cite that as the reason for Brexit being a disaster.
I hope a bird shits in his eye as he leaves the building.

Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
His time as PM is going to be a complete disaster. What an absolute joke. It would be a funny one if it wasn't at the expense of everyone in the country.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt. When Churchill came to power in 40 (and I am not saying Johnson is Churchill) but many thought he would be a disaster. Lets see what he delivers in the next 2 month

I'm not sure how anyone can really give Johnson the benefit of the doubt when even a cursory search through his past shows how much of a complete fuckwit he is.

I'm clinging to the fact that at least it's not Gove.
The amount of people I've heard defending May's tenure as PM is disturbing. Phrases like "she took on an impossible task", completely ignoring that nobody forced her to run for the job, and she knew full well what a shitstorm it already was when Cameron resigned, and also that she called a tactical general election to solidify her power only for it to backfire so that she ended up in a dodgy coalition with the DUP. There is nothing defensible about any of that in my eyes, and I have zero sympathy for her. Good riddance to her. The sad thing is that I fully expect Boris to be worse.

On the plus side, there's a good chance that Boris is going to destroy his political career and quite possibly take the entire Tory party down with him, so there's that.

Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
I have uttered those words myself, but certainly not in defense of her, I meant it quite literally. I don't believe that it's possible to fully leave the EU without it being at the expense of peace in Northern Ireland and the Union in general. Brexit itself is effectively undeliverable, because nobody can agree on what people voted for.
As for Theresa May, she's been undoubtedly the worst PM in the time I've been politically aware. Cameron will go down in history as the one who threw the UK under the Brexit bus, but May did absolutely *nothing* as PM besides lose her own majority and plunge our government into political deadlock.
It seems Johnson is firing anyone who supported Jeremy Hunt. He really is going to be our Trump, isn't he?
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
There's not really much time to achieve anything before October 31st now when you factor in the Summer recess and then conference season. The question is whether Johnson loads up his cabinet with Brexit fanatics who are actually willing to pull the trigger and force us out without a deal. It will certainly be interesting if they really do have the balls to do it, most Tory party members have polled to say that they would risk the Union and economy for the sake of Brexit.
