Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
Yeah they are pretty close, but the 980ti was the top of the range whilst 1070 isn't.

Also there is other tech in the newer cards besides just speed.

Yeah, like DJ said, outside of the stupidly expensive Titan range, you're comparing the top end 900 series card with one of the lower-mid ranged 10x0 series. Compare a 980 Ti against a 1080 Ti and the differences are fairly significant.
It's pretty rare that people will buy the latest range of card when they only own one or two generations back outside of the enthusiast circles anyway to be honest.

Plus, the 1070 gave slightly better performance than the 980ti while being significantly cheaper and cooler at the time while using less power. It instantly made everything that wasn't a 10xx GPU pointless at the high end. Shit, my 1070 doesn't even spin up the fan when playing Europa Universals 4.
Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
All sounding pretty neat so far. I'll be waiting for the TI version though.
Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
I'm still running a Fury X so don't really have a need to upgrade yet, but I think I'll be switching to Nvidia when I do. I've had two ATI cards in a row, and it feels like I've had more driver or compatibility issues than if I'd had equivalent Nvidia cards. Admittedly I think my CPU is the bottleneck in my system, what with it being a mid-range processor from 5 years ago.

Pretty pricey, but they sound like beastly cards. Think the 2060 and 2050 will be the cards most consumers will buy which I guess will be announced later in the year.

The site is being totally hammered and the livestream I'm watching hasn't got to the pricing yet, how much are we looking at? They seem like a pretty significant jump above the current generation of cards.
Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
£1100 for a 2080TI. I don't feel so bad about having just bought a £600 1080TI now.

Good grief.

No, I'm good thanks.
I have a Youtube channel now! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6kVsr ... Q/featured
Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
Anything about the lower cards?
Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
Nobody cares about those, surely.
Re: Nvidia RTX 2080 and co. announced
Given how much they're talking up the new technology behind it, you'd think that the 2070 would provide pretty stiff competition to the 1080 Ti. So it would be a pretty sound upgrade for those looking at updating their system within the next year.
I'm still planning on holding out two more years, by which point I imagine the top end cards will cost £2,000. ¬_¬

So is there some kind of sea change happening with game graphics that's going to need £1000 GPUs from now on?
I spent about 15 years spending £120 on a mid-range GPU every 3 or 4 years and played the latest games at only a notch or 2 below full whack. GPU's costing £300+ used to be pushing the boat out.
