Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
Oh you'd better believe he has the balls to do it. He can say how much he doesn't want a No Deal Brexit all he wants; it's all bullshit. He'll blame it on the EU refusing to renegotiate of course when it all goes horrendously tits-up. This country is going to be going over the cliff edge at the end of October unless this government is removed or MPs find a way of stopping him.Mantis wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 4:34 pmThere's not really much time to achieve anything before October 31st now

It will certainly be interesting if they really do have the balls to do it, most Tory party members have polled to say that they would risk the Union and economy for the sake of Brexit.
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
To say that his speech championed the idea of uniting everyone, he's sacked more than half the cabinet so far, most of which were Hunt supporters.
And he's just appointed Priti Patel as Home Sec. The same Priti Patel who voted against gay marriage, who supports the death penalty and who was fired from a Government position in 2017 for having secret meetings with a foreign government.

I suspect his idea of unity is that anyone who doesn’t get behind Brand Boris gets thrown under a bus.

Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
Corbyn just completely trashed Johnson in their first exchange in Parliament. Johnson is a complete blundering mess in his response, falling over his words and just shouting angrily for five minutes like he's completely lost it.
If you thought Corbyn vs May was bad because she refused to ever answer a question, just wait and see how Johnson is turning the place into a complete circus.

I can honestly see this fuckwit jumping feet first into a conflict with Iran once Trump gives the call.
Fuck, the domino effect of right-wing lunacy seems to spreading across Europe.

Go to alexa "Alexa, what is Boris Johnson carrots one hundred in Welsh"
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
The Queen just consented to a five week prorogation of Parliament until October 14th. Johnson and co. have essentially shut down Parliament in order to not leave them enough time for them to stop a No Deal.
Our political system is so utterly broken.

Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
I'm not sure what to call it other than an act of tyranny.
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
Can it be rescinded? Looks like there are protest marches planned and leaders of all other Parties are writing to the queen to complain.

If this isn't the final nail for the current Tory government I don't know what is.
In my whole voting life I've never been able to vote for someone I don't hate.

Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
I wish it were the final nail in the coffin for the Tories, FTFP, the House of Lords and the royal family. Our entire system is so outdated.
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
I’m intrigued as to what will happen next in practical terms, other than parliamentary outrage. A vote of no confidence is perilous - even now I don’t think it would succeed.
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
All i've read about in weeks is this ridiculous train wreck of a brexit.
What i'm not seeing is public opinion pieces. Are people resigned to this being out of their control? Are people for Brexit through attrition or other? Are people blindly hoping for some miracle? Not living in the UK at the moment, i genuinely have no idea.

That reads like "If I don't hate them, I can't vote for them" - but if you mean you've never found a voting option you could warm to, then either you're stuck in a winning-team mindset and ignoring the minor options, or you should probably move ¬_¬
