The Outer Worlds - PC, PS4, X1, Switch 2019
Re: The Outer Worlds - PC, PS4, X1, Switch 2019
Outside XBox's playthrough shows off a fair bit of the humour in the game. That's all very appealing, but frankly it doesn't look like the gameplay is up to snuff, so I can't imagine I'd really enjoy it. It's exactly the same problem I had with New Vegas.

It will be on the Windows store as it is part of the PC Game pass but that probably isn't a better option for you.

Yeah, I'm happy to wait.

When this was announced I was all fuck yeah that looks right up my alley, but after seeing the gameplay and such I'm gone the other direction. I suspect it'll be all a bit mediocre, hopefully I'm wrong though.

When you get to the point that you need to download a blu-ray's worth of data before you can play a physical copy of a game, what's the point in distributing discs? Why not just sell codes on a card and save the manufacture and transport overheads? I'm not even joking; logistics is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, so why not cut the weight of pointless physical editions down by 90%? Think of all the plastic you'd avoid using without needing to produce DVD cases (which are already bigger than they need to be). It'll keep physical shops largely happy rather than going to an entirely digital sales model.
Obviously there are issues regarding resale on the consumer side of things, but I'm surprised that companies aren't jumping on this green credibility story.

Launch trailer...
Re: The Outer Worlds - PC, PS4, X1, Switch 2019
I can't believe big games are still launching with facial animations and lip syncing that 2004's Half Life 2 would balk at.
For all the colour and humour and "zaniness" the game is selling itself with, the shooting mechanics still look dull as ditchwater. It's a shame, as just about everything else appeals, but if the core gameplay loop does nothing for me, it's probably not going to work. I'll wait for reviews (and then the game; it's unlikely I'd buy this on Switch and the PC version's going to be a while for anyone not wanting to use EGS), but the videos aren't selling it to me.

I haven't really understood the hype for this either. It looks generic as hell.

I have to admit I have concerns that have only got worse since seeing gameplay videos. It’s Obsidian, so I have to assume it’s not a total disaster based on their extensive experience with RPGs, but I too will be awaiting reviews.

A big part of it is that it is Obsidian doing a game that is similar to Fallout NV. I can understand people being reticent but I don't think it looks generic, there are very few games out there that looks like this does. If you are taking about gameplay, I haven't seen enough to judge but what I have seen looks like the gameplay you would expect from a game like this.

It'll be on pc/xbox gamepass so I'll play this one. I do agree it looks waaay out of date though, no way I'd buy at full price.
