The fact that Americans seem to be able to purchase assault rifles with such ease is so ridiculous. And the fact that morons like this seem to think it's their god given right to be able to carry such firearms is just depressing.

As astonishingly stupid as I think doing such a thing so soon after a well-publicised mass shooting is, I can't help but think this story demonstrates the ridiculous situation that American gun-culture creates. He was held at gunpoint by an off-duty fireman, another citizen legally carrying their own firearm and threatening to shoot him. The state of Missouri does not have an assault weapons ban, and Walmart could have legally sold that AR-15 up until 2015 when the company decided they weren't going to stock them. But no, the reaction to this will undoubtedly be "gun-carrying hero prevents gun-carrying lunatic from shooting up store that sells guns".

Just to be clear, I have no sympathy for the guy, it's just that American gun law continues to both amaze and terrify me in equal measure.

In a way I’m glad that Missouri - one of the most permissive states in terms of gun laws - has acknowledged how stupid this was. It sends the message that open-carry laws do not mean you can march into a supermarket in body armour with a rifle, which really shouldn’t need to be clarified and yet apparently it does.

The fact that you can buy body armour and rifles in the supermarket is a disturbing irony.

Is that similar to Mildly Nazi? Gently Hitler? Far right wankjobs the lot, call yourselves what you are you dissembling shower of shit.

Um… don't the laws mean that, though? He has a license for open carry, so he was exercising his "right". Stupid yes, but illegal? I'm not sure.

No, open-carry does not mean you can go wherever you please with a rifle. You can't march round a school with a rifle, for instance. It's also not legal to cause intimidation (intentional or otherwise) in the clearly provocative manner he did. It should be obvious that if you go into a supermarket wearing body armour with a rifle slung round your chest, particularly after the recent shootings, people are going to be scared shitless.

I'm also pretty sure that open carry law only applies to white people. If a black guy walked down a street with a gun he'd be shot in minutes.

"clearly provocative"? What, wearing casual armour and a gun slung to your chest, not even pointing at anyone? Bah.

I'd love to know how to avoid causing intimidation whilst carrying a fucking gun around, too. America is fucking insane. :x

If this wasn't just after a shooting, would he have turned up on "crazy people of Wal-Mart", or would people have reacted the same? Open carry, remember! FREEDOM! YOU ESS AY! YOU ESS AY!
