Reminds me of a co-worker several years ago who received a new laptop and immediately set about installing SQL Server from disc, absent-mindedly clicking next on everything, only to watch her machine restart and start formatting since the disc was a Windows Server installation disc. Had to go back to the helpdesk the same day for a rebuild.

Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

I've been playing Monster Hunter World on PC after having bounced off the Generations X Switch game. Oh boy is this so much more fun.

Well it was all internal, so the only cost was for our helpdesk guys to ship it between their office and ours and spend time rebuilding it. But yeah, we had a good laugh over that one.

Long time ago I'd just taken delivery of a new £1,500 desktop PC.

Was installing the usual programs, including my antivirus, and was clicking through a bunch of text-boxes when seconds after clicking 'ok' my brain processed that the message was asking if I wanted to delete something.dll... new PC crashes and refuses to boot up.

Feeling rather sheepish I rang the support line of the company I'd used and explained they'd sent me a perfectly good computer I'd managed to kill within five minutes of unboxing it. His first question: "was it the antivirus?"

They were very nice about it, they talked me through setting everything up from scratch again and needed to post me a floppy disc with some drivers or something on to complete the process, but eventually got it working again.

OK then , talking about messing up... I once decided to make my machine work better but just using the windows disc to repair something. Without really thinking it ended up reinstalling everything and wiping most of my son's baby photos. Despite using quite a few recovery type programs I only got a few back. The rest were lost forever :(

When it comes to photos - cloud & external HD back up. You cannot replace those.

I think World offers a much easier way into the series. Generations felt too much like work to me, slow and janky combat in a sterile world where I was expected to repeat the same things to the point of nausea. World feels a lot more like a living world to explore, animations and combat are so much sleeker, the added narrative gives the game slightly more drive.

Apparently World has less 'content' in terms of armour to craft and monsters to hunt, but to me that just means less grind! I don't need a game like this to require a 200 hour time sink to see all the content.

I can appreciate that rusty, friend of mine gave me an sd card with his daughters baby pics on because she picked his phone up and slammed it. I've still got it in the hope I can find a way of repairing it one day.

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus

Did this get a bit of a slatting when it came out? It's a wee bit ulgy in places and the controls feel stiff, I found it hard to hit enemies at anything other than close range. Saying that, it's very generous with the ammo and the enemies to insert said ammo into. There are literally mounds of bodies in the corridors after a fight. The action is brutal and fun and the over the top characters are great. Not far into it but having fun so far.
