Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Well, I thought that was funny...
Anyway. Driving. Cars are great idea in theory, but when everyone has one, suddenly the whole operation becomes a lot more stressful.
So anxious was I about driving, I only learned to do it four years ago, at the age of 32. Since then, I have only been on the road once. I am going again this Saturday. That will be interesting.

Good luck my friend. Driving can be stressful at times not so much you but others. When it works it can be fantastic. And if its any consolation I passed at 26.
My year in driving hasn't gone so well. I crashed into the back of someone at a junction because I couldn't see them through dappled sunlight. Two months after getting the car back, I met a deer and took that out.
And I'd been driving for nearly 6 years with no problems.

Always drive like everyone else is a dick works for me. Give people space, don't begrudge people pushing in. It happens. It only takes a few seconds off your journey.
Driving for over 30 years with no accidents
Possibly 10 of those years I was the dick driving too fast etc. not now though.

Now this is something I don't like: American bashing. One of the most annoying activites that British people engage in. I think Americans are great. I married one.

Electing presidents
Gun control
Sensible use of lawsuits
If it’s true then it’s observation, not bashing.

To reiterate previous points already made because I'm flying with them today, Ryanair really are shit.
It's bad enough that they won't let me check in until 48 hours before the flight without paying extra for a seat. But when I look at the list of available spaces and most of the seats on the plane are free, why does it feel the need to allocate me one at the opposite end of the plane to the person I'm travelling with? Jet2 actually recognise that you're travelling as a pair and pick two random seats next to each other for you.

They do that on purpose to try and get people to pay to choose their seats.

Yeah, the last time I went on holiday I was sat with one of my mates on the return trip, but the other had to sit in the back and we didn't see him again til arrival...

Bit of both now I think about it. Both of us were ill during the trip, and I think some nerve-fraying had taken place on top of those weakened states. On the other hand, we nearly hit another plane on the runway on final approach and had to drastically bank and go round again - had that been serious I would've preferred to have both mates accounted for.Hatredsheart wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 4:33 pmWas that a good or a bad thing? The Jackal wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 3:40 pmYeah, the last time I went on holiday I was sat with one of my mates on the return trip, but the other had to sit in the back and we didn't see him again til arrival...
EDIT: Just to note that this was not a case of people being annoyed at the other being ill - my mate gets funny when he's not at his best, and I just plain slept through one of the holiday days and got past it that way (while the other two went on a daytrip).

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Remember how I mentioned I didn't like driving?
How do you think I feel about driving now, and more importantly, how do you think I feel about Enterprise Car Club, when the car I borrowed from them turned out not to have its wheel actually attached to the car?
I was doing 70 MPH on the motorway between Edinburgh and Perth, when the car, which had been making a weird "bumpity-bump" sound since we set out, suddenly started vibrating like crazy, which is a pretty scary experience at that speed. Then, as we approached a fast and busy roundabout, the vibrating became a ROCKING. I was just about to take off from the give-way point at the roundabout, when the rocking became so intense I was not convinced I could actually get through the roundabout. After some embarrassing fumbling about for the hazard light button, which I eventually spotted before slamming it on, I managed to persuade the car to go a couple of meters forward and half onto the grass verge at the side of the roundabout, half blocking one of the lanes. The busy traffic surged past us, with confused and angry-looking drivers staring at us as they whizzed past. I tried to get the car further onto the verge and off the road, but at that point it refused to go any further.
Then I got out and found out why...
I suspect it will be a while before I'm back on the road again, and NEVER will I use ECC ever again. They were also extremely unhelpful about it when we phoned up to report it. They were more concerned about the state of the car than about us, even though, if that wheel had flown off while we were going at 70, we could have died. We managed to get them to refund us for the trip, but they refused to arrange any kind of way for us to get home.
We had to take the train back to Edinburgh from Perth ourselves.
