505 Games have released financials that show Epic paid them €9.49m for the Control exclusive, if you take the price of Control at €55 Euros that equates to around 172,545 copies.

That's assuming all of the $55 would go to 505 Games though, which it almost certainly wouldn't.

It's not an exact number but it's close, if you figured Epic's 12% cut into it then it would be slightly higher, if that is how it works but we don't know how Epic work out the amount of sales they cover. If you take out the cut then it would be around 196,074 so it's probably 200,000 copies that they have guaranteed. Remedy get 45% of that €9.49m.

It's not very much Sly. If you think that something like Pillar of Eternity sold over 500,000 and the second one had early sale of around 110,000 which was considered bad for early sales.

But consider that if they hadn't sold exclusivity rights to Epic then the sales would have been split over multiple storefronts, some of which take up to 30% of a cut from the sale.

It still isn't a particularly huge number though.

Ah, I did think it didn't sound particularly impressive, you would think being exclusive to Epic would cost them more sales than that.

It's just like 505 to take the deal and they did a terrible job of promoting the game, sales have been very poor, it didn't even make it into the top 20 of the NPD for August. So you could say they were right to take the deal, or maybe Remedy would have been better served going with a different publisher who might have pushed the game a bit more.

Elsewhere in the document, it notes that this payout is specifically being counted as revenue for the exclusivity deal and isn't related to revenue from sales of the game.

With no data on sale unit numbers it is not possible to calculate what they would of sold if they made it available on Steam. Given these exclusives are timed 505 estimated they will get the uptick anyway once it goes on Steam next year. Thanks for the NPD note of interest

I do wonder how much less the sales are on the Epic gamestore with the level of boycott it seems to be getting (unless that's only in the fraction of PC gamers who comment online). I assume it must be biting, or they wouldn't be doing all these giveaways.

Having caved and bought BL3 from them, I hope their pain continues so I can keep hoovering up free titles :D
