The Shining
Rewatch for Doctor Sleep next week and it seems my opinion hasn’t changed in the last 20 years. It’s still a bloody awful film interspersed with a few really cracking scenes. There’s no subtlety, Jack has zero nuance and that kid is 80s Jake Lloyd -the Lloyd name must have had its talent all focused on Christopher. As cheap and rubbishy as the TV movie was it did a whole lot better job of pace, character development and empathy. It sure is fun to watch Nickelson go full Nick Cage and Shelly Duval is a fantastic scream reactor but as a movie it doesn’t gel much like a whole lot of Kubricks work. Amazing set piece director, bad movie maker. You know, a popular opinion ;)

Still very much looking forward to Doctor Sleep though!

Official Secrets
The story of Katherine Gun leaking the memo of America enlisting the UKs help to try and blackmail the Europeans to back the Iraq war. It’s really good. A slow burner for sure but Kira Knightly is great and it feels mostly genuine. A big pet peeve of mine is true stories with blatant fiction spliced in for drama of which I only felt that in one small scene. It’s not one you need to see on the big screen but when it hits Netflix you could do worse.

I'm with Alan. I've tried to watch The Shining three times and always fallen asleep long before the end. Such a dull film.

Woo, my hill is less lonely ;)

Terminator Dark Fate
Some good, some awful rubbish. I liked how they sidestepped using Furlong -_- I think I prefer T3 as a sequel to T2 but then I don’t really rate anything after 1.

It just never gelled with me mate. I love Dr Strangelove and most of Full Metal Jacket.

I think he means he prefers T3 as a sequel to T2 when compared to the new film. I hope.

I just dont like Johns constant whinging! Its fine as a movie, its just no T1. Its way closer to T3 which everyone hated which I always found a bit weird.

I mean... he kind of has a few reasons to whinge, poor kid!

T3 isn’t terrible, it’s just a bit boring.

Yeah the steaming turd spoiling some great T2 fun was always John Connor. I do have a habit of rooting for the bad guys in films, but the extermination of the human race was almost a price worth paying to see that irritating little fucknut get squished.
