Re: Welcome to Blade Runner month !
Thinking of watching this with the eldest who obviously hasn't seen it before (the original that is) trouble is which version?
If you had the chance to watch it again for the first time which version would you go for?
Final cut would be my guess, but its been a while since I watched any of them.

Final Cut, beyond a doubt, followed immediately after by '49.

I forgot to mention; this opening sequence is my favourite opening sequence to any film, ever. Absolutely masterful work.
That said, I'm pretty sure that window is too high up the wall for that guy to actually be looking out of the window. ¬_¬

No mention of the PC point-and-click makes me a sad panda. One of my favourite games ever.

Final Cut definitely.
2049 didn't work for me, but it wasn't helped by the fact that the cinema I saw it in was shit.

Ooh, although I still have my original copy. Might check out if it still works when I go home next week...Medicine Man wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 10:30 pmIn that case this may be relevant to your interests...

Re: Welcome to Blade Runner month !
I have mixed feelings about Blade Runner (the first film - I haven't seen the second film). On the one hand it was undeniably a huge influence on many things I love, from cyberpunk to sci-fi in general, to games and music and almost any piece of fiction set in the near future. I'm glad it exists.
On the other hand... I hate the damn thing. I've tried so hard, so many times to like it and I simply don't. I'm not sure whether it's the impenetrable, unrelenting melancholy, or maybe the style of storytelling which is at times so subtle and interpretive as to be almost meaningless. Whatever it is, it's not for me. I envy those who laud it as one of the greatest films of all time.

Re: Welcome to Blade Runner month !
I like parts of it, rather than the thing as a whole. The opening scenes, some of the music, some of the dialogue, some of the action, much of the cinematography. There are other parts I find really absurdly annoying (pretty much everything to do with J.F. Sebastian and his toys, for example)
The second film, though, I love all of it. It is, I believe, a far better film than the first. If you have a Netflix subscription, watch the second one as soon as possible.

I do, and I will watch the sequel at some point, if only to watch Harrison Ford collect his paycheck after 35 years of slating the first film.

I'm the same with Blade Runner, I appreciate the influence it's had but don't particularly like the film. Live that end credits music though.
New film is a bit more coherent and enjoyable. Be really interesting to see how Dune turns out.

I was tempted to watch BR'49 on Netflix last night, as my wife went out and I had the TV to myself.
But then I decided to do some painting instead. ¬_¬
