Red Dead Redemption 2 [PS4, XBone] - PC in November
Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 [PS4, XBone] - PC in November
I encountered a similar error when I tried to patch GTAV up to date after installing the new launcher the other week too. Had to uninstall the whole game and couldn't be arsed to redownload it. Their new client is a buggy mess.

Will give re-installation a spin but not expecting much. You are right about their launcher!

Fixed it, no thanks to Rockstar. Re-installing did nothing and tried all the other remedies posted online bar flashing my BIOS, all to no avail. Then late last night saw a post suggesting upgrading Win10 to version 1903. Checked and mine was not updated, so ran it overnight (took ages and need my beauty sleep). Fired up this morning and everything worked - played 5 mins and performance looks lovely too, so fingers crossed I have no other issues like many are reporting. TIme will tell...

Rockstar also rolled out an update to their launcher which apparently fixes some of the crashing issues so it might have been that which fixed it.
Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 [PS4, XBone] - PC in November
No that did nothing, I picked that up last night to no avail.
Anyhow, I can now play the game I paid for so fingers crossed from here in!

Well it looks...amazing. Loving my replay already.

What's hand to hand fighting like? Is it Batman button mashing and timing blocks? Or something complicated?

It isn't a huge part of the game, but it is done by context-sensitive buttons used to punch, block and grab (and once grabbed to throw, choke or beat). Works well enough - you have to time blocks and then counter to make openings, you can't just whale away or the opponent will just cover up then wallop you as a counter. Likewise Arthur will make use of things, so if you are beating someone up close to a wall he might grab them and slam their head into it for example. Arthur is not a fan of the Queenbury rules, one suspects.
Bar fights can also get out of hand mighty quickly, especially considering pretty much everyone is packing a knife and/or a gun. And in the game

Did it take long for the game to click with you? I never made it past the first hour, despite RDR being one of my favourite games.

It really comes into its own after the prologue, once you leave the mountains. Maybe 2 or 3 hours in.
Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 [PS4, XBone] - PC in November
Yep, the game reaches a point and says "OK buddy, over to you, I'm here with missions whenever you like".
Worth doing the Hosea missions early on to open up the legendary animal hunts and the fence, and the Strauss ones to open up camp upgrades (and buy those leatherworking tools for the cook) and you are away.
If you are going to do a fair bit of hunting, look out the Legendary Buck early on as it's trinket gives you improved pelts on your kills - very useful.

I so torn about whether to get this. Someone on anotehr forum (well, several people actually) have mentioned using a VPN to be a Ukraine IP you can get it for 28 squid. Not sure I'd trust it though... but for that price I'd bite.

I honestly can't recommend it highly enough (as long as it works on your rig - a mate gets 5-10 minutes before it crashes even after the patch). It is, in my view, the best game I have ever played. I love the setting, the freedom, everything about it just clicks for me. Am on my second playthrough having completed the game on PS4 and enjoying it just as much the second time of asking.
The VPN trick sounds very iffy. If it is region-locked, you would have to use the VPN whenever you played which for online play would be very unpleasant ping-wise.
Best I have seen on the vanilla edition is £42 from CD Keys.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 [PS4, XBone] - PC in November
Coming to Steam on Thursday...
Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 [PS4, XBone] - PC in November
It went down to 34 squid on CDKeys so grabbed it. It's installed (for nearly a week now) but I haven't started it as I want to be able to set aside enough time to really get into it.
Maybe this weekend. And then it's the gamble of whether it actually runs or not although it sounds like a lot of patches have happened since launch.
