Daily forum quiz thread
Re: Daily forum quiz thread
Did the quiz, clicked submit and it said it’s in maintenance mode. No result. This may not end well.
EDIT - No, it did not.

So you ALL know which Edwardian bloke wrote a book about fairies...

Surprisingly, yes! I did a mini project on it at primary school and somehow, nearly three decades later, it triggered a memory.

Fair do's, it's always nice when a piece of esoteric knowledge comes in useful.

I'm pretty sure that was a question fairly recently.

Re: Daily forum quiz thread
Andrew Lang, right? I know this because I once had all his fairy books in my Amazon cart. About nine years ago I went through a "collect as much classic literature as possible" phase. My book-shelves are still heaving as a result.
I've not read most of them. ¬_¬

Nope. Edward Spencer apparently.Stormbringer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 11:30 pmAndrew Lang, right? I know this because I once had all his fairy books in my Amazon cart. Re: Daily forum quiz thread
Or possibly, as I just googled, Edmund Spenser, and rather than being 19th - early 20th century as I assumed (I think I was thinking of Conan Doyle -_-), he was actually a contemporary of Shakespeare
Having put in the research, I look forward to getting this question wrong again the next time it comes up.

Re: Daily forum quiz thread
So when you said Edwardian, you meant Elizabethan? ¬_¬
The Faerie Queene was, if I understand it correctly, a tribute to Elizabeth I. I have a copy of it on my shelf, but I've never read it.

Re: Daily forum quiz thread
Incidentally, both Spenser's Faerie Queene and Andrew Lang's Fairy Books were a huge influence on J.R.R. Tolkien. That's partly why I got interested in them in the first place.

With that level of trivia knowledge you should be doing a quiz. A regular one, even, like, say, daily. -_-Stormbringer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 10:16 amIncidentally, both Spenser's Faerie Queene and Andrew Lang's Fairy Books were a huge influence on J.R.R. My knowledge-base is only on history, a bit of literature, and religion. I don't know anything about anything else. ¬_¬

My knowledge base is mostly "quiz questions that have come up several times before" so you're likely to beat at least someone!

Same. Although I'd also add my extensive knowledge of 'all of these' type questions.
