The only correct way, of course, is to pronounce it "hif", with a Mexican flourish.

I've always pronounced the g the same way you say gimp.

There, all settled then!

On the one hand I'm reassured to have my own usage confirmed by an independent source.

But on the other hand I'm now distracted by speculation about why that was the first place your mind went to... :-k

Same. It's clearly the only correct way.

Jimp.

I've long given up questioning where my mind goes to.

On my quest to have every category of undesirable sit next to me on a train comes the unsettlingly creepy child. This Village of the Damned candidate sat with his dead behind the eyes mother opposite me yesterday. He had a look of petulant malice on his face and raised my hackles no end. At one point he slowly turned his head to look me in the eye, I swear I flinched and by butthole puckered shut. I wasn't the only one that got a bad vibe off him as I saw a few other people shift uncomfortably away from his baleful gaze.

It's possible the child had emotional problems or something similar, but it's also possible he was the bringer of the end times.

Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

The Victoria Derbyshire show. Everything about it.

The only reason I even know about its existence is because it plays in the background all morning in the office.

The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

It's odd that I've never watched it, and yet somehow I feel like I know exactly what it is and how insufferably awful it must be.

My impression is that it's more like Kilroy with all personality clinically extracted from it.

I once saw a quote about it on a forum which goes as follows:
Listening to Vicky talk is like walking across a tray of broken glass whilst a crowd of drunkards urinates on you from above.
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

Somehow that makes me want to see what it's like.
