I suspect it helps that the first book that I believe this season is based on, was divided up into these same stories; they're not trying to cram 800 pages of exposition into 8 hours of TV. It must be easier to write cohesive screenplays when the source material already follows an anthology structure.

It's actually the first two books: The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. SoD is an anthology of standalone stories like TLW, and I guess they've done it because Yennefer and Ciri both feature more prominently in SoD.

But, yes, essentially each episode is a story/chapter from one of those books. There's some crossover inasmuch as they're blending Ciri chapters with Geralt/Yen chapters to keep her involved in each episode.

5 episodes into this now. Still really enjoying it - it's a high quality production but has a nice pulpy, ever so slightly trashy edge to it at times. Which I've always liked when it comes to fantasy.

I don't know if it's perfectly written, but the show feels great to watch.

Some of the acting is pretty horrendous, but on the whole I enjoyed it in a kitschy kind of way.

The Scottish accent in the 6th episode was particularly woeful. How hard can it be to cast a wee baldy Scottish guy with a beard?! I know dozens of them.

I finished it at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it all. I had no idea what some of the references were to and had a bit of trouble the last episode but overall it was great.

Looks like the complete Hexer series from 2001 is on YouTube (Polish with English subtitles I think).

I’ve heard its terrible but since I’m consumed by all things witchery at the moment, I may give it a go.

Gahh! :(

Back to Xena, I guess.

EDIT: Although, I could get the film adaptation... :-k

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hexer-Andrzej- ... 849&sr=8-1

The first review suggests it may be a painful endeavour:
The Hexer, is a 2001 polish fantasy film based on the Witcher novels. According to Wikipedia and IMDb, this film came out in late 2001 and was considered a confusing mess. The story is all over the place and is not coherent at all. The next year in 2002, they re released the 2hr film as a 13hr TV show
A 13 hour story condensed into 2 hours has to be worth a go.

It's like the anti-Hobbit.

Have only played a bit of the 2nd game and and hour of the 3rd. Haven't read any of the books but have a vague idea of the story.

Have watched 3 episodes and I still haven't a clue what's going on, nothing is explained and it could be three different shows jumbled together. I'm still enjoying it but a wee bit of effort could have been spent on making it coherent to noobs. Having the beastery pop up and explain briefly what a gigyflux, wankypoddle or whatever the fuck he's hunting would have helped, or some exposition from the bard. It would make it a different show I'm sure but something better could have been done.

Moan over, it's still a good show.

Sapkowski has done another interview for the ages:

When he did his infamous Eurogamer interview, I wondered if he was just being difficult because he doesn’t like games. Turns out he hates mostly everything, especially interviews it seems.
