Traffic cops are going to have to ask speeders if they think they're someone else now after decades using the same line.
RIP you legend.

He'd still been doing media interviews every now and then despite his age, and he was always a delight to listen to.

so sad about Tim Brook Taylor. The Goodies played such a pivot role in my childhood memories and comedy. Some of my earliest memories is of watching The Goodies. I even passed TBT in Maidenhead WHSmith back in the late 80s.

If only he knew what he was talking about and the consequences of his perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
There are sensible reasons why WHO guidelines suggest avoiding naming a disease based on the location of origin. For example, doing so reduces the cooperation of the nation where it originates (because they don't want to be tarnished with the name) as it can have severe economic impacts. The management of any disease is highly influenced by early detection and response, and so it's hardly a big ask to not name it on the region it came from when cooperation is key.
It's also ridiculous to suggest that just because Bill Maher isn't going to harrass or assault Asian-Americans (because he knows they're not the cause of the disease) that other people get that. They may well be racist anyway, but that's not an excuse to incite them towards further violence against a particular demographic.

“In recent years, several new human infectious diseases have emerged. The use of names such as ‘swine flu’ and ‘Middle East Respiratory Syndrome’ has had unintended negative impacts by stigmatizing certain communities or economic sectors,” says Dr Keiji Fukuda, Assistant Director-General for Health Security, WHO. “This may seem like a trivial issue to some, but disease names really do matter to the people who are directly affected. We’ve seen certain disease names provoke a backlash against members of particular religious or ethnic communities, create unjustified barriers to travel, commerce and trade, and trigger needless slaughtering of food animals. This can have serious consequences for peoples’ lives and livelihoods.”

The Spanish Flu is strongly considered by researchers to have not come from Spain too, the Spanish just happened to be not suppressing the number of cases they had at the time unlike the rest of the world. Ironically it may have actually originated in the United States.
It may also have come from UK military camps in France. But I'm all up for changing its name to the American Flu anyway.

I don't know who that fella is, but his rhetoric didn't work for me. Trump has clearly been calling it 'the Chinese virus' as a way of deflecting attention away from his own colossal blunderings. Surprise surprise, asian Americans get targeted by the idiot brigade - that is on Trump, like so much else. Also, why the sideswipe at Islam mid-way through the piece? Bloke strikes me as a bit of a shitheel tbh.
