Microsoft to buy Bethesda/Zenimax

Post by DjchunKfunK » Mon Sep 21, 2020 1:06 pm

Microsoft are buying Zenimax/Bethseda for $7.5bn. This is a massive deal and single handedly pretty much sorts out any talk about exclusives for the Xbox.

So... XBox will be releasing two PS5 timed exclusives?

What a time to be alive.

Also does this mean Doom Eternal is going to be on gamepass and my cheapness of not buying it has paid off? \:D/

Yeah everything will be coming to Game Pass. Death Loop and that other game they announced will probably be the last Zenimax games on the PS5.

It's good news for PC players as well, basically anyone who doesn't only buy a PlayStation product.

Exclusives Are ‘Completely Counter To What Gaming Is About,’ Xbox’s Phil Spencer Says “We should applaud load times and fidelity of scenes and framerate and input latency, and all of these things that we’ve focused on with the next generation,” Spencer said. “But that should not exclude people from being able to play.” Spencer then added "Lol, jk, we bought RTX Skyrim".

Another thing to note, this acquisition makes a Fallout game from Obsidian much more of a reality.

This should be good in theory. But my gut reaction is terror at what Microsoft might do with Elder Scrolls and Fallout other than throw money at them.

I kind of get it, but it feels like Bethesda have been driving their franchises into the ground, and I was worried about the state the next Elder Scrolls would be released in.

But Microsoft feels like a bit of an unknown quantity to me in terms of games development. Will ES6 be given more time? Less? Will there be more microtransactions (a route I felt sure Beth were going to take), or none?

At the very least it'll be coming to Game Pass, so I can play it there and see for myself if it's something I want to drop real money on.

Do the Halo games have microtransactions?

I've literally never played any of them, tbh.
