General Gaming News
Re: General Gaming News
Final Fantasy 16 looks like a slightly mad combination of Elden Ring and Devil May Cry, and basically nothing like the series prior to maybe 15 (the road-trip one with the teleporting swords).
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't see how you're meant to actually take in any of the information it's giving you. It's throwing up hundreds of numbers when you hit things and seemingly the only way it thinks you can time some strikes correctly is by pausing the scene until you hit a button prompt. It's certainly spectacular looking, and the previewer sounds quite positive on it, but from a ten minute video it's just pure assault on the senses.

I wish Square would come up with a better font, the one/ones they use in their FF games always looks like placeholder. It looks even worse when there are about 20 numbers flying about on the screen.
Re: General Gaming News
Agreed. I think they've been using that one (or something very similar looking) since 13. Maybe it fit that game as it's fairly futuristic looking, but it really jars with the setting in that video.
Re: General Gaming News
So Kerbal Space Programme 2 has been released into early access (at full price), but from what I am reading is barely at an alpha stage. What the fuck happened there, how could they class it as a shippable delivery?

Quite an entertaining read, rare these days from RPS.

The funny thing is they originally wanted an early access launch in early 2020. Three extra years, granted with the pandemic happening right at the start of those years, and it still launches in an alpha state. The concept of an Early Access launch really can be a piss take at times.
Re: General Gaming News
I love the original for what it is, and despite being utterly hopeless with it have still had a lot of fun. Not so sure that I need anything more from the title though tbh.

Especially as this is basically a Take Two joint now.Raid wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 6:29 pmThe funny thing is they originally wanted an early access launch in early 2020. Same. It's one I've meant to go back to for ages, but when they announced the sequel I think I just decided I'd give this a go when it was released. It's obviously not in a state I'd buy it yet, not that I have the money at the minute anyway, but it's disappointing that it'll still be ages. I'm almost certain this release will lead to an uptick in sales of the original, and frankly I'm more likely to go back to the one I own (which is a very different game to when I played - I don't think there was even a career mode when I was sending poor Kerbonauts to their doom).

Sounds a lot like Albion Online. I have concerns whenever a developer tries to make an MMO without a publisher, they require so many resources that you often need to scale back what you are making in some way or you end up running out of money and either put out a broken, unfinished product or cancel the game.Alan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 7:28 pmhttps://www.pcgamer.com/former-eve-onli ... ym4fe9f6wv

Health bars and damage number on enemies now seem to be the norm, I really hope that can be turned off. And of course it has a card system which I'm never a fan of. The gore looks magnificent though
Re: General Gaming News
Oh that's a pity, why on earth did they go that way? Didn't need it in the previous titles and the games were all the better for it.

There's a definite influence from the Dune film in the video. The sound work is also great

Re: General Gaming News
Seeing as though we never got a true sequel to what I consider a genre classic in Darksiders II, I'm very much loving the look of the following from the developers of Lords of the Fallen & The Surge...
Building the future, and keeping the past alive - are one and the same thing.

Yeah, I thought the reveal trailer looked promising, so although he was a little down on it for not being a Soulslike - for me that's a definite plus! Will be keeping an eye on this one.
