Re: Currently Playing
Most triple A games are over 100gbs now, that doesn't seem that excessive.
Re: Currently Playing
Spacebourne 2
Been playing this non stop. One developer has made (a slightly janky) star Citizen/Freelancer/Elite game. It has so much stuff in it.
Flying my spaceship, landing on planets exporing villages on foot, creating bases, taking over star systems, mining, pirating, bounty hunting.
It's one of those games where I like to actually take notes about what I'm trying to do. There's not many games that make me want to take notes these days. Easy to get invested in.
The dev is not a native English speaker and that shows in a lot of the mispellings and AI narrated NPC dialogue but doesn't detract from the sheer size of it all.

That looks pretty cool actually! Is it linear from a narrative perspective or is it just go into the black and pick up jobs as you go?

Re: Currently Playing
Have to be honest, I ended up refunding this after about an hour of play, couldn't get past the jank and bizarre AI voices. I seem to be in the minority though judging by reviews.
I am playing and enjoying Everspace 2, though, which came out yesterday. Feels like a bit of a Freelancer spiritual sequel, and ditches the roguelike structure of the first game, which I didn't get on with at all, for a proper story campaign and open world.

Pretty much do what you like. The 'quest line' will stay at the same point whilst you go do your whatevers.
And yes Everspace 2 is fab. I just noticed I have 91 hours racked up one of the few early access games I bought straight away having loved the first one.

What games are you playing that are that big?! Even my CoD install is "only" 75GB, and that's the most egregious example I can think of.DjchunKfunK wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 8:14 amMost triple A games are over 100gbs now, that doesn't seem that excessive.
Re: Currently Playing
I always thought by now we would have the option of a smaller nvme install or the traditional big install as a mid point before the SSD became a minimum requirement.

Re: Currently Playing
Ubisoft of all people have proven that released games can be dramatically reduced in size post support cycle, they managed it with both Breakpoint and also with Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, reducing its overall game size taken up on the disk by I believe 13gb via one update. That may not sound much, but that's an extra or even few extra installed games to some.
What makes Jedi's 155gb sound even worse is I own every bit of released content for AC Valhalla *that's campaign +3 main full dlc +free content over three years* and checking my folder it comes in at 146gb in a total 61 subfolders. Not bad for a huge open world with several included region maps a discovery tour mode and the free rogue like mode on top.
For a game then like a Jedi sequel, asking that kind of space requirement seems pretty damn ridiculous and I can't see how it will be justified.

Off the top of my head Avengers, Warhammer 3, latest Destiny 2 expansion. The latest CoD says it needs 125gbs. Even the D4 beta needed 80gbs of space. Most is probably an exaggeration but it is pretty common now.Drarok wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 1:50 amWhat games are you playing that are that big?! EDIT:
I don't think it follows that an openworld is automatically going to be larger in terms of the resources needed. A game like Jedi could easily have more assets required for it's multiple levels. What makes Jedi's 155gb sound even worse is I own every bit of released content for AC Valhalla *that's campaign +3 main full dlc +free content over three years* and checking my folder it comes in at 146gb in a total 61 subfolders. My Flight Simulator installation with all world packs and other addons is over 200GB, and that doesn’t include the many GBs of space taken up for scenery caching.Drarok wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 1:50 amWhat games are you playing that are that big?! EDIT - I went to check the exact figure out of curiosity. Currently sitting at 273GB.
Re: Currently Playing
Destiny 2 is 87GB, the 75GB I said earlier for CoD is my installed size so I dunno where 125 is coming from. Saying "most are over 100GB" doesn't ring true at all for me, I don't have any over 100GB. The other two? No idea, I don't have those!DjchunKfunK wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 10:58 am...latest Destiny 2 expansion. The latest CoD says it needs 125gbs. Hah. I somehow expect that to be massive, it's not quite the same category.

End of the day it isnt some failure of development to have a game be over 100gbs.
Re: Currently Playing
I don't consider 150gb to be a failure of development, but there does come a point where install size is a problem, and it feels like we're rapidly approaching it. The XBox Series X only has a 1tb hard drive, of which about 800gb is useable. That's nearly a fifth of a flagship console's drive space (I'm not looking at the Series S because presumably it won't need that much space as it's incapable of displaying the highest quality textures).

Re: Currently Playing
Oh for sure that's an issue for people but I wouldn't expect things to get better as more games move to higher spec engines like UE5.Raid wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 7:48 pmI don't consider 150gb to be a failure of development, but there does come a point where install size is a problem, and it feels like we're rapidly approaching it. Vampire Survivors new dlc Tides of the Foscari is out with a new map and 4 new characters. Played for a bit yesterday and unlocked 2 of the characters and weapons. One character is a magician I think and pretty unremarkable, the second on the other hand is a fucking beast. Once leveled up he wallops the ground and pummels everything into oblivion. I matched him with the lightening, holy water and one of the new weapons..nothing can get near you. Even the enemies that guard the silver and gold rings are dead in seconds. He might be a bit op...
