I'm in Edinburg for a few days. Everyone's phone just went off about 10 minutes ago as an emergency test. Much confused faces
Also it's fucking freezing here...

It’s no bad when the winds away but hurricane bawbag just won’t let up. If you’re up the Royal mile it’s a damn windtunnel.

Visited the castle yesterday. I just wanted to curl into a ball and weep at one point it was so windy.

The arrest of the peaceful protesters in Trafalgar Square yesterday was harrowing. The police claim they had intelligence that the protesters were going to lock themselves to things in disruption (which I see as valid protest, but the law was recently changed to make that illegal - yet another red flag), so they arrested them to prevent that from happening.
There’s a term for arresting someone before they’ve actually committed a crime: pre-crime. It’s what they used in Minority Report. Can someone explain to me how this is not outright, in-your-face fascism?

No, because it is.

Well, at best it's authoritarianism rather than outright fascism.
Whatever you call it it's bloody vile. To me it's mind boggling how they don't understand just how much more damaging arresting protesters is than having a few placards showing.
I didn't watch any of it in the end, the entire thing was already leaving a sour taste in my mouth before the suppression of peaceful protest.

Charles looked so old and frail during the coronation. I wonder how long it will be until there is another? I don't see him lasting as long as Queenie. Will as many people have an appetite for it again so soon?

Indeed.
Most people see one coronation a generation, I've a feeling we might see two coronations and two state funerals in just one year with our luck. Add in the recent revolving door at Number 10 and there's a real feeling of change and impermanence in the country at the moment, for me anyway.

I really don't know why he didn't stand aside in favour of William, what's the point?

I didn't watch it because I'm very much anti-monarchy, but I did see a couple of short clips of the ceremony on the news.
The bloke was literally being crowned and he still looked like an absolute miserable bastard. What a dismally glum reign he's going to have.

I suspect logic never comes into it with a person in Charles' position. He couldn't do anything with his life besides wait for his mother to die, and I doubt you can spend 70+ years being told you're born to rule without actually doing so when the time comes.

Me and you both mate. It should have ended with Liz.
Millions spent on them when some mere mortals have to rely on food banks is appalling.
