I sorta wish they'd showed off a more interesting mission than the one they'd chosen - stumbling around in a flat swamp taking pot-shots at wildlife and zombies isn't exactly selling the game. It also doesn't help that they're clearly playing with a controller, so the gameplay looks a little stiff at times. The bits they showed in the later section around motion capture are far more enticing.

Combat still sounds a bit clumsy but I'm not sure if that's not deliberate. I get the impression it's going to be punishing so needs to be played methodically and slowly. A game this size won't be perfect out of the gate and it's a miracle it was even made. Looking forward to getting murdered by a mutant pig within the first 5 minutes

Yeah, the earlier Stalker games weren't really shooters... you had guns, sure, but any time you were required to use them to defend yourself it became a panicky, error-strewn fumble for survival, which is entirely in keeping with the atmosphere the game is going for. You aren't a hero straddling their world like a colossus, you're an insignificant speck barely surviving in a deadly Zone you hardly grasp the realities of.

That crosshair is the first thing I am turning off, and the hardest difficulty from the outset. It is the way to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Live the world, treasure your life. I love how they have kept all the feel of both the games and also the vast Modiverse. I can't wait until this comes out. =P~

I will be playing this one in much the same way, hopefully as much of it in co-op as possible (preferably all of it), in memory of Todd. I remember him talking to me about it, saying it was one of the things keeping him going when the cancer was biting hard, and is a crying shame that he never got to experience it. Semper Fi Todd.
