MÖRK BORG: Anyone up for a game?
So, I've been away for a while, but during my absence I stumbled upon the 'doom metal'-themed TTRPG MÖRK BORG from Sweden!
I've always been a bit unsure about TTRPGs; not being a very social person (at least in real life), the idea of sitting around pretending to be other characters in front of people (whether I know them or not) has never really sat well with me, and the whole approach of "you can do anything you can imagine" has always felt a bit weird to me, compared to the rigid structure of board games (e.g. move six spaces and attack), though I've always enjoyed the idea of exploring dungeons, fighting monsters, dodging traps and finding treasure, which is why games like HeroQuest and its ilk have always had a huge appeal.
However, somehow (with the help of a colleague from work), I discovered and got into MÖRK BORG, and now I'm hopelessly addicted. I've been running games for my colleague for almost two years now, I'm running a huge campaign for my sister, and I've also run a few sessions for Gibby who many of you may remember as being a member here (and on PWF for years prior).
I have fond memories of playing Advanced Hero Quest with the old TGA crew and I was wondering about seeing if we could get a MÖRK BORG game started, if anyone's up for it?
Even though there are fairly sophisticated methods out there these days to play TTRPGs online with friends, I would honestly prefer to go very old school and play via the forum, if people are up for that, similar to the way I ran AHQ on the forum in DAYS OF YORE.
Due to my life choices, I couldn't possibly commit to any specific time-frame: it would have to be a very casual "whenever you have a moment to reply" 24/7 basis, not "Let's play on Tuesday evening from 7-10", if you know what I mean.
If anyone's up for it, please sign up here!

Re: MÖRK BORG: Anyone up for a game?
Marvellous!
You can play 'classless', but that's kinda boring, so, to start with, you pick a class.
The most elegant solution, rather than having to roll up your character manually, is to use this tool here, called Scvmbirther:
https://scvmbirther.makedatanotlore.dev/
This instantly generates a PC for you, complete with stats and starting gear. There will be an opportunity to buy/sell things before the adventure starts, but this saves you some effort. If you don't like what comes up, just click the button at the top to kill the PC and birth a new one.
There's a button in the bottom-right hand corner 'Enable MBC Content' which unlocks additional classes and features. I recommend turning this on for some more variety.

As in play it out over the forum like those few very funny games we had years ago?
(Prey's undead knight falling down a hole and getting pissed on by my barbarian springs to mind.. )

Yeah, that's my thinking.
Not sure how will that will go, and I know it's rather primitive compared to the various methods available today, but it's partly for old-school nostalgic effect.

I don't actually remember this myself. Was this a D&D session (I never joined those), or one of the board games I attempted to play with you all?Animalmother wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:54 am(Prey's undead knight falling down a hole and getting pissed on by my barbarian springs to mind.. )

Two to four, probably! I've never run it with more than one, so this could be an interesting experiment...

Re: MÖRK BORG: Anyone up for a game?
I am intrigued. Tentative yes, but I think I need to know more about how the game is actually played. Is there a board/map or is it all narrative based?
Incidentally I could set up a channel on the Discord for this if it'd be easier.

You could watch others play to get a feel for it, then join if somebody dies, perhaps?
You could, but I'd kinda like to try the forum for some old school nostalgia. If it doesn't work out, maybe we could switch to Discord in the future.Incidentally I could set up a channel on the Discord for this if it'd be easier.

Nah, where's the fun in that. Better to go in blind and die in the most horrendous manner. I'll maybe have a pootle around Youtube.Stormbringer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 5:44 pmYou could watch others play to get a feel for it, then join if somebody dies, perhaps?

Well, I quite agree. And that's probably going to happen. It's that sort of game.

I'm interested alright. Will have to have a look at a video as well.
I could have sworn you were the DM of that game we had on Prey's World. Prey got dropped into said hole after constantly failing requests to make a move.
