In fairness, scientists have noted the Earth’s iron core appears to have changed shape in the last 20 years, which could lead to a change in the magnetic field, thus proving Trump correct that magnets don’t work. Or it could have no tangible effect whatsoever, or none for billions of years.

Much as I equally enjoy and am horrified by watching Trump trying to connect very distant dots, live in front of a podium and the world's media, I don't think magnets are affected by Earth's own magnetic field, not at the strength it is at the moment. If Earth suddenly grows to hundreds of times its current size and the field it generates grows equally in strength, maybe then Trump's comments will make sense.

When asked about spontaneous planetary gigantism, a local scientist simply pulled out a hip flask and walked away sobbing.

Is he just making an extremely poor attempt at trying to sound intelligent in front of Musk? There's probably a large portion of his support who thinks Musk is a genius so he's gotta do what narcissists do?

Also...

The unashamed and blatant corruption of it all is staggering. I wouldn't be surprised to see the US military being saddled with hundreds of these useless shit boxes in the near future.

They'd initially been listed as armoured Teslas on some sort of document published last week, but that was then taken down and changed to armoured vehicles or somesuch when it became widely publicised. It does suggest that there's at least the concept of trying to get stuff through under the radar rather than being as corrupt as possible openly. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not.

The entire administration is corrupt. The Eric Adams debacle last week, with mass resignations of career prosecutors rather than them sign the quid pro quo release from his corruption prosecution testifies to the DoJ actually being weaponised. RFK and Gabbard have been voted in, Patel possibly tomorrow...we ain't seen nothing yet. That and Dump negotiating with putler without European or Ukraine involvement...Hegseth and Vance bumbling and backtracking. The US is a laughing stock and a pariah, but a threat to the entire planet when you extrapolate the repercussions.

He's fucked over Ukraine and is basically following the Russian narrative now.

Putin's been coyly waving the old VHS tape of him and Incontinent Olga again, I guess.

Surprise, surprise, NOT accountant Musk has been fiddling the numbers...problem is, accountability and open forensic scrutiny is glaringly vacated, so he can say what he wants with impunity:

He's not doing anything that'll dissuade anyone from the conspiracy theory over him being a Russian agent, is he?

It's absolutely unbelievable how badly they've handled everything to do with NATO and Ukraine these last couple of weeks, to the point where I have to assume they simply don't care, and everything they say is just soundbites for US news channels to run to make Trump look big and strong. Just look at the comments Vance made last week, something along the lines of "we've had to put up with Greta Thunberg scolding us for ten years, you can manage a few months of Elon Musk's commentary" like it's a school playground game of one-upmanship. It's pathetic. People in Ukraine are fucking dying, their cities are being destroyed, Russia is by every possible metric the invading aggressor, but Trump is going to sell their entire country down the river because the only thing he cares about is being compared to Putin as a world leader, and he won't get that image from dealing with Zelensky.

The Meiselas Brothers dethrone joe rogan. Well deserved, they present truth—increasingly rare in the current desert.

There was obviously never any rules or safeguards present to stop shit like this from happening. Nothing more than a fascist state now.

Trump is replacing the military top brass.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyr2xvn4dpo

I’m not sure how usual it is for a new president to shuffle the joint chiefs, but I was under the impression they were typically left in place until a reason to change someone came along. Under normal circumstances, the most important thing you want with a change of leader is military stability. Replacing the chairman and five others seems straight out of the despot playbook.

Honestly that took longer than I expected once Hegseth was confirmed as head of the DoD. I don't pretend to know how exactly the highest ranking military officer and DoD are supposed to co-operate, but if a Major was issuing commands to a 4-star General, that was always going to cause friction. I can only assume that "focussed too much on woke and DEI" is just the administration's lazy catch-all reason for firing someone, and in reality he was probably just far too intelligent and experienced for Hegseth (or Trump) to have any control over.

It's possible my notions of that position are over-influenced by the fantastic Admiral Fitzwallace from The West Wing, but I have to assume that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs has to have the utmost respect for the military, and couldn't oversee the ruin that morons like Hegseth and Trump were going to usher in.
