Re: General Gaming News
Usual corporate drivel for most of the video but the last 10 seconds show the new game. It's probably pre-rendered but looks great, a return to BF3 & 4.
Re: General Gaming News
I just quit that video think that's all corporate drivel then saw your comment so went back in to the last 10 seconds.
Oh well, I was hoping for another nice 1942 era one. Loved that game.

Aye, BF1942 was the pinnacle. Sadly now anything they release will be chock-full of P2W nonsense, so in full Duncan Ballatyne "I'm out"...

Rose tinted glasses I think there chaps
BF1942 is nearly 23 years old now and was fun but clunky. My personal favorites are Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1. BFV is great if your looking for WW2 focused, it was vastly improved over what was initially released (healthy player numbers as well).
I have very little confidence that the new game won't be a shit show on release. Even after all these years EA/Dice still have the bizarre attitude of "It'll do".

Maybe just the gameplay elements...
1942: Being able to 1 shot a tank if you hit it in the flank meant using tactics to not show your arse to anyone and being protected by infantry.

It's not rose tinted glasses for me, BF1942 was just pure fun. Yes it was janky but also I could kill a tank by standing on a grenade box and throwing grenades. The move to realism that the series followed after that was never really as interesting to me.

Re: General Gaming News
1942 looking back almost feels like the bastard child of the series to me in comparison to latter outings and I never felt it truly received the polished updates it deserved, something DICE would go on to really hone in future titles...up until a certain ladder in the series that is. The name of the clan escapes me today, but I remember having hours of fun playing in Bilko's BF clan with Wolfy and many others - it all felt highly experimental at the time due to the scale and boundless energy each session would create. I feel as if nothing will now reach the pinnacle era of both Bad Company 2 BF2 and BC2 Vietnam - the vibe of Vietnam specifically was like being dipped in the purest of gaming honey and it was hard to believe it was somehow built by a team of only 35 people in less than a year. More than likely for many a first entry into Battlefield than 1942 was.
I did find some mild enjoyment in 2042 eventually personally, although when you pay only £4 for the pleasure after EA became so desperate to rekindle dwindling numbers, that ends up being something of a given I guess.

Re: General Gaming News
For something that came out in 2011 that still looks amazing. Yeah I absolutely loved BC2 Vietnam, it was pure chaotic fun that dripped atmosphere. The rot set in after BF4 I think, this need to push cosmetic shite and have an in game currency system resulted in content being carved up. All the old Dice developers are long gone at this stage so the magic isn't there anymore.
Re: General Gaming News
Battlefield's a bit of an odd series for me. I've never really gotten on with the PC games (I've played the original Vietnam, 2, 4, 1 and 5), but absolutely adored the original Bad Company on the 360 (the one that was basically a console-developed BF2). Every time I've tried one of the modern PC games I've found them riddled with people that can spin around and headshot you instantly from 30 miles away, but that's something that doesn't happen nearly as often when everyone's aiming with an analogue stick. It's the only competitive shooter where I've felt the console version was more enjoyable.

Actually BF1942 was the reason I found Prey's World in the first place. We joined clans.
Enemy at the Gates and Prey's World. [PWEG] tag.
Fun times.

Wholeheartedly agree. Let's not also forget cramming a jeep full of Engineer 'splodes, hooning towards enemies in the jeep and then bailing and detonating - glorious. Or sniping into the cockpit of incoming strafing planes.DjchunKfunK wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:40 amIt's not rose tinted glasses for me, BF1942 was just pure fun. Thing is 1942 had bullet drop, leading enemies with your fire etc, there was just more art to playing it. The maps felt like maps rather than a carefully curated series of choke-points that always have a back way in etc. Classes could be chosen by anyone and everyone had the same loadout, so a level playing field.
BF1942 was the daddy. What has followed are the petulant and whiny children.

Another remaster. Great game but a second part would have been much better.
