Re: Frontier Scum, Scene II: Horsehead Ranch
Cadaver Kid clambers out of the hole in the well-shaft wall and attempts to catch the rope so he can climb back up to the surface.
Unfortunately, he slips, falls several yards, and crashes straight into the murky water below, in total darkness!

My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

On hearing a cry followed by a splash, Cumflutter peers into the well.
"Are you in need of assistance, sir?"

Excellent.
So, meanwhile, while the chaos is unfolding in the well-shaft, Doctor Artham "Crusty Scrotum" Scotum prises open a window board with his knife and looks inside.

It looks like a bar. A bar in a state of chaos. Broken glass, smashed bottles, animal droppings, dusty tables with mouldering playing cards lain out. Above this, he smells a faint whiff of alcohol and hears some chatter going on in the room, close by, but from this angle he can't see anyone. The chatter seems to be a mixture of hysterical, drunken laughter and terrible jokes.

Cumflutter will have to lower the bucket (by turning the crank-handle on the well) to allow Cadaver Kid to reach the rope.

Though it is too dark to see, you know what these are by familiar touch. You splash about, greedily trying to collect them all from under the water.
Forty five silver coins!

I squeal like an excited hog. When (if) I finally get back to the surface, I'll give Cumflutter $25 as recompense for his assistance.

It is then that you hear an uncomfortable sound in the water behind you...
The distinctive and unmistakable growl of a crocodile.

I first hear joyful hooting and splashing, shortly followed by screaming and shooting. I rapidly lower the bucket into the well and see the rope go taut, then with great effort, wind the handle to raise it.
"Sir, will you cease your confounded gyrating! You are taxing both my physical fortitude and patience!"

I assume I'm partially deaf from repeated gunfire inside a well.

All right, Cadaver Kid, seeing as it's pitch black in here I'm gonna have you make a SLICK test (d20+1) to hit the darned thing!
