Okay, Doc, drugged up with home-made meds, you expertly descend the rope and find yourself in the dark well-shaft, the scent of stagnant water below.

Assuming you whip out your flip-lighter and strike it (to see what you're doing) you see the hole in the well-shaft wall that Cadaver Kid found previously.

Now it's time to make a GRIT test to get through that mesh of human hair and broken glass that's blocking the way into the tunnel beyond.

2d20 again, and it's a +1 each time for you.
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

Couple of good rolls, 17 and 18 the totals.

You slip through the mesh unhurt and find yourself in a tight tunnel that leads through the rock until you arrive in a cavern with three rotted corpses lying slumped against the walls.

As a reminder, the corpses have upon their tattered clothes:

- a deed to the ownership of their horse
- a business card for the company Miser & Sons, owners of Horsehead Ranch
- a torn-out page, containing a list of names, many of which have been crossed out

There is another passage leading out of this cave, which Cadaver Kid never explored, having turned around at this point.
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

I'll press on, but will pick things up on the morrow...

Soon you arrive at a larger cave. Someone's here...though they're dead.

A bearded corpse, much more recently dead than the bodies in the other cave you've just left, with an eye-patch, is lying on a fold-up mattress near a dying cooking fire. A cooking pot hangs over the fire, filled with some kind of chilli stew.

There's also a large chest pushed up against one of the walls.

There's a hole in the wall of this cave, opposite where you just entered, leading into a dark chamber beyond.

My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

"I wonder how the others are getting on," Doc muses, contemplating heading further into the scary tunnels alone...

I will investigate that chest first, though

Inside the chest you find a sack of flour, empty saddlebags for a horse, and five silver coins.

Does my horse already have saddlebags?

I’ll forego my laudanum and head down the trapdoor to join Doc.

Do I recognise the bearded corpse from the wanted list?

Hold your horses, partner! You ain't near that corpse yet.

First, take a GRIT test (to open the hatch)!

I went down via the well incidentally, with the idea of you and Cumflutter to go down the trapdoor and hopefully catch those Loudmouth boys in a classic pincer manoeuvre...

It sure does. You've got your camping gear stored in them.

I leave those then, and just pocket that silver.

GRIT is a natural 1, minus 1 = 0. :lol:

I unload both revolvers into the hatch.
