Definitely worth it. Super film.

I also watched something with the wife last night called...

Emily

It's a period piece about the life of Emily Brontë, author of Wuthering Heights. Beautiful cinematography of rural Yorkshire, superb soundtrack and great cast and acting. Only questionable element was how much of the "vice" depicted in the film did the real Emily actually get up to? I am willing to bet zero.

Tombstone is one of my all time favourites, the cast and the way they gel is something else, but Doc is my stand out, Val's depiction was pure mastery, the scene where he draws two guns and spins them in opposite directions, despite being drunk, is just sublime. "I have two guns, one for each of ya"

I've long wanted an excuse to drop "I'm your huckleberry" into a conversation, but I really can't pull it off.

Sense and Sensibility

A 2024 adaptation with a mix of black and white actors (mostly black). My wife loves period dramas (of this sort) and I sort of vicariously enjoy them, though wouldn't choose to watch them by myself. This one was, I understand, made for TV, but it has a polish and a charm to it that even some proper films lack. It was like somebody said: "Let's take the aesthetics and casting choices of Bridgerton, but apply them to a classic Jane Austen story. And it works. It works very well. In fact, it was much better than Bridgerton could ever hope to be.

I didn't enjoy the original (1990s) adaptation as much. I'll re-post my mini-review of it from a few years ago:
This was part of the Columbia Classics 4k collection I got a while back. Finally got round to watching it.

Not a single novelty death, let alone a post-mortem one liner. The entire bloody thing seems to be people weeping uncontrollably. I was hoping Mr Wiloughsby would let loose with duelling pistols at the end, but instead there was just Alan Rickman pelting people with coins.

Total bollocks.

2/10

Wasn't a fan of that one either.

Tombstone was OK (I guess). Typical 90's stuff.
Love Val in it though. Kurt is normally brilliant but this was just a lot of scowling.

I dunno, it has a bit of 'typical 90s' but I think it's aged far better than most things from that (generally crap) decade.

Predator: Killer of Killers

Pretty fun film. Animation is very good. Interesting characters.

Until Dawn
Garbage. Its not even anything to do with the game, not that that would translate well into a movie. 1/5

The Monkey
Fairly crap but quite a few laughs so I did enjoy it a bit. The story is just folk dying all over the place in gore filled way. 2/5

My Fair Lady
I love the start of this so much when Audrey is chewing all kinds of scenery. 4/5

Roman Holiday
Its a cute film and props to them for not schmaltzing out the ending. 3/5

I was in Rome a few years ago and went looking for the "Mouth of Truth" head from that scene in the film. Couldn't find the bastard which was disappointing.

You’re not allowed to put your hand in it anymore? We’ll need to devise another way to detect lies :/
