Somehow this is both astonishing and yet not remotely surprising. From now on I’m going to assume that anyone who works against the release of the files is in them.

This much has always been clear, but I recently watched a summary of some of his creepiest stuff and it crosses into outright illegal territory with underage girls. Apparently the beauty pageants he ran in the 90s, which he bragged about on camera saying how he could waltz into the dressing rooms while they were half-naked because he was the organiser, often included girls as young as 14. I don't know if there's any evidence he went further than perving on them, but it's kind of a moot point in terms of the ethical and legal consequences. The guy is a monster.

What I still don't get is why he'd promise to release the files in the first place. It wasn't an off-hand "I might get to it" suggestion, it was a cornerstone of his election campaign along with releasing the JFK files (which he has partially done, save for a section of files they still won't release because "reasons") and UAP files (which he's conveniently forgotten about).

It was political capital; I doubt there was anything that would have riled up his voter base more than accusing the Democrats of covering for a massive paedophilic conspiracy. It explains why the MAGA lot aren't letting this one go. Perhaps he banked on being able to fool them on this like he's fooled them on, well, everything else - bury it, tell them it was the Democrats making it all up, whatever, but paedophilia seems to be the one crime that everyone agrees is entirely unforgiveable and it doesn't seem that he can get away from this.
