I don't think text should overlap an image on a pub sign. Can't honestly say I'm a fan of the "Stay a while and read" line either; it just sounds a little awkward.

Yep. When I think of "Stay a while" it conjours up images of Cheers....wholly desirable feeling!

Not huge on the big image behind the text either. Pub signs tend to have a picture below the name of the place, after all. "Stay a while" does sound a lot better actually, less awkward.

I must admit that my favourites so far are still the first and third posts on p3, but might prefer Animal's text suggestion of Stay and Play Awhile for the text.

The "Stay awhile" for me immediately conjures up Impossible Mission - a game from waaaay back on the C64:
