A forlorn sigh was heard resounding around the halls of Boots Towers this morning as I perused the final results of this round.

I lost - again - to Wrathbone by a measly 1.05 points - 162 to 160.95. They say there is often a fine line between success and failure, and never a truer word was spoken as regards my fantasy team. A couple of sackings will have to suffice this time.

Another battle of the titans took place, this time between Animal and Mrs MM, the latter emerging victorious with a whopping 208 points to an almost as whopping but tragically not quite 193 points.

And MM was the latest in a long line of fantasy players to leave my missus in the proverbial dust. I shall have to have words with the other half as to whether she wants to transfer any, you know, good players into her team. We shall see.

The table is looking threatening now if you're a member of the Boots household, Mrs Boots bringing up the rear on 0 points, myself not doing heaps better on 9 points, level with Animal, while the MMs are starting to streak ahead but still trailing behind WB who has only lost once in his 7 games so far, topping the table with a mighty 18 points.

I'm up against Mrs MM next so I'm not expecting a turnaround in my fortunes any time soon :(

The more you try the worse you do. At least that's my experience anyway. Sometimes the whole passive Que Sara Sara approach works best.

Another tight week with some close encounters all across the board. This coming week though I foresee bloodbaths across the board.

Mrs Boots has instructed me to make her team, well, less shit. I've kept a bunch of Watford players to ensure her philosophy (all the great managers require one these days) remains intact, but hopefully she gets some points come season's end.

Well, my efforts to get Mrs Boots some actual points was a qualified success this weekend... yes she racked up her highest round score to date, but unfortunately she found herself up against our in-form Animal, who himself racked up his highest round to date with a quite frankly astonishing 233 points. Mrs Boots' total of 165, meanwhile, would have been enough to beat three of the other players had she had the good fortunate to be paired against them instead. Alas she was not, so that's that.

It wasn't all doom and gloom this week in Boots Towers though, as I managed to stop the rot and beat a strong Mrs MM side, which was uncharacteristically our lowest scorer for the round.

And then Wrathbone continues his unbeaten run by the merest whisker once again, overcoming MM by just three clear points, 157.6 to 154.6. His hands-off management style is certainly reaping rewards thus far, but I can't help but wonder at the incredibly slim margins of his victories in recent weeks... surely this run can't go on forever, can it?

Also, I think we're run into another international break, so it will be a couple of weeks now before proper football - and more to the point fantasy football - continues.

I can see I'm up against Animal next though... gulp :/

Bollocks! I though I had him for a minute there. You say three clear points I say three measly points. Damn you Wrathbone!

Glad of the international break tbh things were starting to get inside my head a little. Quick refresh then back to it. On the plus side Mrs MM is in the huff after her mightily sub-par performance over the weekend. :D

By the looks of things Mrs Boots has got out the All Watford situation just in the nick of time. The only way is up!

It feels like things are quickly settling into a pattern in our fantasy football season.

Wrathbone at the top of the table.

Mrs Boots at the bottom.

And here I am stuck in the middle with the rest of you ;)

I put in my highest points of the season since the first week to beat a subdued Animal 179 to 170, bringing me back into the clutch of players sitting in midtable.

Meanwhile, MM guaranteed a week of spousal angst by thrashing Mrs MM 195 to 101. There's no call for that, is there? Things are unlikely to improve for Mrs MM next weekend as she's up against the runaway train that is Wrathbone's team.

The most interesting matchup though sees MM and Animal face off - both teams capable of very high scores, but also a bit inconsistent. Genuinely can't call that one. :D

Ooft. To say things are a little raw here is an understatement.

The Mrs is out for blood and is prone to bouts of irrational tinkering, so next week is not looking good for her. :D

We all appear to be caught in the midtable meat grinder and that's never a pretty outcome for anyone. Except for Wrathbone and Mrs Boots of course who are flying high at their respective ends of the table.

I don't want to say the reason I'm winning due to inaction is because I'm secretly running an underground bribery and coercion network within the Premier League to ensure every player knows exactly how each match should play out on pain of a fate worse than death, but at this point it's becoming difficult to explain otherwise.

In seriousness though you've a good team... but what I still find slightly surprising is despite your dominance in terms of total points accrued you're in 4th place (of 6). You're not amassing vast points each week, but just more than you need to beat whoever your opponent is. Very odd!

They say revenge is a dish best served cold.

And so I wonder whether, bearing in mind the rapid onset of winter, whether MM allowed himself a small shiver as he surveyed his decimating victory over Animal, in one fell swoop avenging his earlier humiliation at the hands of the same foe.

MM wins their match-up by an incredible 223 to 163 points, incidentally his second straight win and Animal's second straight defeat.

Oddly, though that isn't even the biggest story of the round. For the previously unassailable Wrathbone has been, um, assailed. Mrs MM, perhaps emboldened by the display of her wiser, better, more virile half [*ta for the £20 by the way, MM, much appreciated] swept to victory over our league leader and haul herself back into the reckoning. It was a close-fought battle, however, Mrs MM emerging the victor by 165 to 162 points.

Oh, and Mrs Boots endured yet another thrashing, this time at my hands. Still, you have to treat 'em mean to keep 'em keen, don't you?

What do you mean she's standing behind m-

*sounds of distant screams*

Things couldn't have went any better over in the MM house this week. Happy campers all round.

I'm sure despair is just around the corner, but for now I'm standing firm bristling with virility. :D

Another smashing write up Sly, thanks mate!
