Yeah, I think that's why most of us love it. I certainly think it deserves respect and it's not a BAD game by any stretch. I heard that Advanced Heroquest combined with Warhammer Quest (I think) made for a brilliant campaign.

I was lucky enough to play Space Crusade with Stormbringer - a great fun game that was only hindered by the fact we played remotely over Skype. Without that limitation it would've been quicker to play, but I still enjoyed it. Literally lost a number of Space Marines to Gretchin though! :-&

Death by Gretchin? How embarrassing. :)

When you roll dice like I do, you learn to not be embarrassed after a while... :D

Heroquest was great fun. Warhammer Quest was better.
Still have the complete box here...right next to the two new ones :)

Most of my tabletop time goes to D&D (5th edition) at the moment. If anyone is interested in starting a new forum campaign (run on roll20.net which gives you maps, live chat, etc), let me know. :)

Advanced Hero Quest had some advantages over Warhammer Quest, in that it was more customisable (allowing you to create your own characters from scratch) and, unlike both Hero Quest and Warhammer Quest, it played completely independently of any card decks, as everything is worked out with die rolls on charts, which I find a bit more liberating.
Yep. Nothing's ever replicated that freeform dungeon crawling experience as well as Advanced Heroquest for me.

One of my fondest memories of my youth was playing AHQ all-nighters with my then best mate, who's no longer with us.

All you bastards have got me up my Dads loft looking for my childhood copies of Hero Quest and Space Crusade.

Its the most time I've spent with that walloper in many a year and I've still not found them. I hope you're all happy.

I wouldn't mind giving it another go. I finally bit the bullet and joined a group of friends for irl D&D a few months ago and it's been great fun. It'd be very tempting to join a forum game to roll a new class.

How did I miss this earlier!

I won't lie, I had an absolute blast playing last time and was a bit forlorn when it eventually fizzled out. I'd love to see something started up again. I think the system we hit upon last time - online maps, live chat over Skype etc - worked very well.

Would definitely be up for taking part - on the proviso Mantis reprises his role as a drunk dwarven bard and unwitting skull-crusher

Roll20 would work better than play -by-forum, too.

EDIT: ah I see you guys did play over Skype in the end last time?

Well... maybe Ellis could make a comeback. Only problem is that he was last seen drunkenly heading into the forest away from the camp to go take a pee in the early hours of the morning. That was a year ago.

Yeah, Roll-20 for the map and dice rolls, meanwhile we were chatting over Skype throughout. I thought it worked really well. Shame it fizzled out a session or two after that. But would be a good way to do it from the start this time.

That's so Ellis.
