Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden [PC, PS4, Switch, XBone]
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden [PC, PS4, Switch, XBone]
Had my curiosity for this aroused by the first previews, as really I'm a sucker for almost anything this XCOM-like sub-genre has to offer, but that aside it does look cool.
Journos have been playing a 45-minute demo, and apparently only PCG's Sam Roberts has been able to beat it - albeit on easy mode. So it sounds like it's pretty challenging:

As with most things these days I shall probably await reviews, but definitely one on my radar.

Re: Mutant Year Zero (or DuckCOM ¬_¬) out Dec 4
This looks great, very nice art style and graphics.
It'd be good to have something with the production values of the new Xcom which is also a bit more hardcore on the mechanics and difficulty.

Indeed.
Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Out in about a month's time I believe.
Youtuber plays the opening couple of hours (over several videos):
I think this is looking really neat. Already considering breaking my own habit and purchasing on launch. Maybe even *gasp* pre-ordering!

I heard the last build was quite buggy, hopefully something they have been working on.

I've never played a turn-based game like this with any real commitment. This one looks pretty awesome, though, I might have to give it a try.
If Edwin's being an Edwin does he call himself an Edwin?
Re: Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden [PC, PS4, XBone] - DuckCOM
So it's a combination of XCom-style combat and story-driven post-apocalyptic RPG? That's definitely ticking a lot of boxes for me. XCom 2 is probably my favourite strategy game, but I found some of the randomly-generated strategy layer elements a little lacking and the story a bit thin.

Now available to pre-order via Steam or the developer website, at £29.99. Doing so means you get to play it three days before the slated 4th December launch date.
Have to say I'm sorely tempted, and may still do so. However have read on their forum that the campaign is an estimated 15-20 hours long. I was hoping for a little more from a game like this, especially if paying the full price, so may end up waiting a bit until it comes down a bit on other sites.

15-20 hours seems OK to me. Shorter than XCOM for sure, but I usually get a bit tired of the XCOM games before the end. I'll probably play this on Xbox via GamePass.

Sure, it won't put me off buying a game I'm really looking forward to. But at the full price it has given me slight pause for thought in terms of value. At £20-£25 I'd be snapping it up, and pretty sure it will be able to be picked up for something like that shortly after release.DjchunKfunK wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 11:37 am15-20 hours seems OK to me. Gives a chance to read early reviews as well, in case of initial bugginess.

This looks decent. It's a nice setting for the game too.
Might be one to watch for.

Is it just because XCOM is longer that it feels slightly expensive? 15-20 hours for £30 is a pretty decent deal in general I think.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 11:52 amSure, it won't put me off buying a game I'm really looking forward to. Mostly the state of my finances. More willing to go into that bracket for games I know will keep me going for weeks of play.DjchunKfunK wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 12:12 pmIs it just because XCOM is longer that it feels slightly expensive? 15-20 hours for £30 is a pretty decent deal in general I think.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 11:52 amSure, it won't put me off buying a game I'm really looking forward to.
