Wow.
We are sorry that you aren't happy with the bag. The bag shown in the media was a prototype and was too expensive to make.

We aren't planning on doing anything about it.
Too expensive? Oh, well that completely sorts the matter, how dreadful for you. I don't know how your $3billion company would have coped.

That is an appalling response. I'd be bloody ashamed if that was the response my bosses told me to provide.

Bethesda have done a bit of damage control over that response. The person giving the response wasn't any employee they were a contractor so they have probably been fired now. Additionally they have clarified why the bag was canvas and have given people 300 atoms, the in game currency, as a make-weight. That amounts to £3.99 in real money.

"Unavailability of materials" Is there a worldwide canvas shortage I wasn't aware of?
My daughter got the nylon bag with hers, she was less than thrilled.
Then she played the game.....

A shortage could mean a number of things I suppose, but I would imagine it's a logistics or pricing issue. I can't imagine there's actually a textiles shortage; there must be hundreds of factories around the world producing this sort of stuff.

It really doesn't excuse the fact that Bethesda must have known about this at least a month before the game's release, it's not as if these things are manufactured a few days before the product ships. The fact that they didn't inform customers beforehand and are currently refusing to accept returns is really quite poor. That they thought they could get away with this substitution in what is supposed to be the premium version of the game shows really poor judgement.

If it really was down to a pricing thing then someone dropped a massive bollock over it. Costing is pretty much the first thing that they would have done and had approved by management before they even produced the marketing for it one would have thought.

I get the feeling that the contractor was just being honest about it in a rather blunt way and Bethesda are now spouting the PR damage control to try and make out it was actually for another reason.

Then she played the game and had so much fun that she quickly forgot about all her gripes with the bag? Well, that's alright then.

Initial costings aren't always going to match the final cost, they can change depending on market conditions or other issues. I wouldn't blame Bethesda for circumstances beyond their control, but I would absolutely hold them responsible for not informing their pre-order customers of the change.

Yep, have to be cynical and say they knew they'd lose some sales if they announced that and made the conscious decision to not do so.

Isn't it 100 Atoms to the dollar, so it'd be even less than that in GBP?

Or is there a separate conversion for Sterling?

Oh, speaking of - if you accept the Atoms it counts as compensation and you won't be able to do shit if you decide to join the class-action suit against Bethesda.

The Internet is a dramatic place. That's probably true though.

It's 500 atoms, so $4.99, equates to £3.99 or thereabouts.

They seem to be just lumbering from one fuck up to another now. But hey you can buy a door with the atoms at least! Something something showing the door something something.
