Slay the Spire [PC, PS4] - PS4 on May 21st

Post by Sly Boots » Fri Dec 14, 2018 12:18 pm

A few of us have played the EA version, but the full game will be launching next month:

The current price will be going up on full release, so if it's something you've been keeping an eye on you may want to pick it up now.

FWIW it's a really neat deck-building roguelike type thing, much replayability and a lot of fun.

Well worth the current £12 asking price:

This is getting released in a couple of days, so last chance to buy at the lower Early Access price if it's something you've been keeping an eye on!

Opted out of the beta with the old right click, properties, betas, none - opt out?

In the end I just uninstalled/reinstalled it, came back up as v1.0 so all good.

I still have yet to beat a run as the Defect, I've gotten as far as the third floor boss, got the Timekeeper guy and got him down to 50hp before he stomped me.

Ah nice one. Glad you got it sorted as my next suggestion would've been to switch it off then on again. :D

I can't muster any enthusiasm for it. If there are two words to describe a game these days (including boardgames) that can extract an immediate sigh of weary resignation from me, it's "deck builder".

Guhhhhh...

It's not really like that, though. All the cards are available to you from the start, and the order you collect them is randomised on each run, which can lead to quite different builds each time. It's better to think of it as a roguelike with a card-based combat system than a deck builder imo.

Not sure I'd agree there Sly, it very much is about building a deck as you go.

Yeah, but not in the same way you do in Hearthstone for example. You don't have to pay for packs or craft cards or anything like that, and it only lasts as long as that run. It depends on your definition of a deck-building game, the way it's implemented here I can't imagine anyone being put off by it.

I think it might put me off.

I've not read much about it yet, but any game that requires you to maintain a deck rings alarm bells in my head.

I think it's certainly worth trying if there's ever a free weekend or demo or anything, it's a great game.
